My life update

As I write this, I am going through let’s say an interesting time, and it has led me to question myself, about am I on the right life path and is it ok, to question the authority figures in my life, these being the people who have the power to destroy it. I am not talking about my parents or family at all they in fact are bloody amazing people, but the support workers in my disability services accommodation. There is one lady who I do clash with and the other support workers due to the fact that they have bills to pay can’t say anything at all to her as she is related to management. I had a run in with her and it has led me to question how much power a housing provider should have. I understand that they really need to have some but how much is too much power. Like I can have family over to visit but I can’t have other support organizations in the house due to insurance issues. But I have talked to the NDIS commission, and this is what the very definition of an unapproved restric

The NDIS Reboot my thoughts on the matter

OK so this is the start of a new series about the national disability insurance scheme as we have seen the minister for social services the honourable bill shorten is on a mission 2 reboot the NDIS we have seen a lot of fear-mongering from not only the legacy media b but from other places as well including I'm not limited to blogs YouTube TikTok by people who have a vested interest in ensuring that the way they can profit from this scheme is valid sorry this would be agencies that provide support workers who are currently overpromising and under-delivering Kaya two people with a disability. We are also seeing the fear that's rightly placed by disability advocates, however,, we do see that there are some major rort’s of a system that was designed true provide support for the most vulnerable end profoundly disabled people in our community. There was never supposed today a rolling into the NDIS of state-based systems these were designed to stay and support people who needed less

Radical honesty and how it is changing my life in unexpected ways.

This is going to be a radically honest blog post and it’s something I think we need to be talking about a lot more about what I experience daily I am sure that I am not alone in it this being social isolation as I am not pushed to work by the government and my doctors don’t want me to and this leaves me with a lot of time on my hands and I am battling an internet addiction. As all of my friends are either married and volunteer and work part-time, Unmarried but work unsocial hours, or overseas and I only see them occasionally through Zoom and talk to them on the internet. I have realized that a lot of my depression comes from being isolated so I am setting myself up as a public speaker and I am reaching out to people who can help me to deal with these addictions as well. So this post is going to be an ongoing series about how I am going to try and find a community offline or even start to create one, as I know that the disability community in Toowoomba is a tight nit, but I am findi

What is Good support part two Active support

This will be a bit of deep dive into what support and care are are, so In a previous post, I talked about active and passive support. There are times when both are appropriate but today I want to focus on active support and what that looks like as it is very different from passive support is when a support worker does things for you instead of with you and this is where things get tricky as it can lead to something called learned helplessness, and learned dependency.     However active support is where the support worker is engaging the clients to build their capacity and skills, or in the case of a higher functioning client to have their skills expanded upon or to not go backward, we see that this often can be the case in some cases where someone goes into a disability service facility. There is an argument to be held around disability and consent and active support and this is where active support becomes support and care so understanding that support is an evolving process and

things I wish I knew about getting my NDIS package

Disclaimer – That these are my own lived experiences and understanding from the research that  I do around the NDIS and health-related topics please be aware that it is informational only and not to be used as a substitute for professional advice or working with a Planner, Disability Advocacy service or talking to your Medical and Allied Health team.    This is an interesting post to write but the NDIS is the National disability insurance scheme and it is a program to improve the lives of disabled people in Australia. However, there are a lot of things that I wasn't aware of in the program that I now wish I was aware of at the time and how to mitigate these risks.  The first one is that Agencies are business and will treat you like a business, some a more person-centred than others but they are a business and will treat you like a number, despite advising to be a person-centred organization, and this is where I have grown to navigate the NDIS, so being able to navigate the NDIS wel

My Support of the Raido presenter who broke down on air discussing disablity services.

So this is a bit of a different post and it is something that needs to be discussed I see that it’s something that others are aware of as well, however, what is it, it is the lack of disability services in the Outback and this is something that we need to be aware of that there are people with a disability that don’t fit into any box, so slip through the gaps.   These doctors don’t want them working, but they can’t drive, they are too high functioning for a day center or they don’t have the funding for a day center and this is a big issue as well. So what does that look like as well, as the person gets socially isolated and often their budget is very tight so they need to be aware of that as well. But what does this look like and the support that was outpour for Sabra Lane I want to put my bit forward and say that the NDIS is great but we need it to go so much further and we need to be much more aware of this as well.   There is a growing awareness of disability but what it

The NDIS what is it and where to from here a continuing series

So what is the NDIS? The NDIS is the National disability insurance scheme, it is a program that is designed to help people with a disability to live an “ordinary life,” so to get them out of unsuitable situations such as hospitals, aged care facilities, or away from aging parents into disability housing and housing that is appropriate to their needs. However this is a sticking point as there are gaps in the services that are major and this can become an issue due to the wording what is the difference between a medical issue and a disability as so often the two cross over and make life complex for the person involved, but for the NDIS the disability is lifelong stable and diagnosed, and able to be managed. However so this begs a question of what is a medical issue as some medical issues can cause disability, so this is where things start to get tricky, in that a medical issue can be something that can be treated or cured, however, I know quite recently that we are seeing some lo

So this is a bit of an indulgent video it is thanks to my viewer and readers on the blog and YouTube. I know that it seems a bit out of place but I felt it was important to do it because people seem to think that you can make it overnight on the internet.  Unless you already have a legacy media presence you really can't and it takes a lot of work this is why many people with a disability are drawn to content creation, as there is still a bias towards people with a disability, being employed as it seems to be a risk more than having a diverse work place and that's a whole other post.  However, if you start with an internet connection and an idea it is a lot harder than people think. I know that When looking at other creators that are on podcasts, or other channels and they are asked when did you know that you had made it they generally say when they were fiscally stable and that it took months to years of hard work. I know one creator by the name of Caitlyn Doughty said that she

The Mundanes guide to the shadow world. Werewolf's

Werewolves are humans infected with a demonic disease this being Lycanthropy in their case. Which gives them the ability to transform into powerful wolves,   Changing   either under the influence of the full moon or at will. In their lupine and human forms, werewolves possess inhuman strength, speed, and other enhanced capabilities, with strong claws and canines. Like someone who is under acute stress like a mother having the adrenalin really pumping in her system to save her child by lifting her car or running a long distance. These are all powered by emotions and we do see that there is a difference between good stress and acute stress and bad long-term stress.  Stress can lead to long-term health issues such as autoimmune disorders.  These can be disabling in that many people think that they strive on stress until they are having headaches and other issues. We also in the modern world see that there isn't time for many people to relax and there is very little taught about nutri

When giving up is the best thing you can do

So many people have said that the best thing that you can do for yourself is to never give up, but in the context of disability sometimes it is the best thing you can do, for your physical, mental, and emotional health.  Some really obvious things are:  Giving up trying to go at the same pace as others  Trying to achieve the same goals as others (this might be true for some but not others)  Trying to please others all the time - this might lead to others being angry because you are no longer a people pleaser and taking a risk. (I will do a longer post on this one as I am seeing so many people for the sake of having friends and support not understand the difference between friendship and being used)   Pushing yourself to be normal and being fatigued because of it. - This just doesn't work and can make your disability or illness so much worse  Seeing that work is the point of life and feeling guilty if you can't work - yet you still need a purpose in life, so that could be kee

Disablity and media - Continuing the conversation

This is a topic that I never thought would get so much traction, yet it has generated over on Quora a lot of discussion about how people are represented in the Media. It really does seem that representation of people with a disability is the last frontier, we are represented but not in a positive light.   In fantasy and young adult shows it is shown as something that needs to be overcome or if it is a world that has magic as a part of it, something to be healed, by magic this adds to the shame that people with disabilities feel because they don't fit into society in a normal way or even have what is considered  a normal life path of  School  University/ Tafe,  Work Dating Family of their own.  there is also the issue of being different in a society that still sees disability as something to be ashamed of this is where representation matters to people. To see themselves on a screen, we have seen major leaps around  Diverse casting Diverse screenwriting  Having different styles of
