Simon and the mark of Cain

Image
This is a variation from the books as Clary was the one that gave Simon the mark of Cain, in the show, it is the Seely queen. ( The Queen of the faeries) This is such a great variation and ties into the Relationship in the show that shows the complexity of this world, it is a great example of all the legends that are true. The mark of Cain has been shown in various ways in media as well as in history books as we are starting to see most legends are based on some type of truth or a person's misfortune. We see that the Seely queen thinks that this is a blessing, but it is a curse, as again my lens is a disability and it seems that people who see people living on a government income is a great way to live, yet it isn't as most people with a disability live in poverty or have to rely on charities at time's weather that be family or friends or formal charities. The formality of this ceremony sees that they take this mark seriously. The history of this mark is that it activat

Alec and Jace Parabatai bond; a lesson in Male friendship.

So this post is the start of another series looking at this relationship when I did the research for this post I found out that there are parallels in most religious communities to prevent social isolation. Not the supernatural bonds but people who have chosen to work together, to go to bat for each other as well.  This bond most similar is when Mormons go on missions, as they are together the whole time. Yet this bond in the show is quite complex as we see that it is a rare thing to have a Parabatai and something to be celebrated, yet like most religious communities and couplings they have rules around it, one of the most well-known is that they can't fall in love or else they can become too powerful and become the Nephilim of the old testament, the angels that carry out the wrath of God, yet it is an indiscriminate punishment.  Yet we do see that there is an argument over the translation of what this means and it could mean fallen warriors making the argument for the reality of h

Simon and Jace Downworlder Shadowhunter relationships an over view.

This post will be mostly focused on the first and second seasons of Simon as he is dragged into the shadow world, unwillingly he is turned into a vampire without his consent, and has to learn to adapt,  we see that he is horrified at what happens to him yet we see Jace beside Clary to support her as he has tolerated Simon from the start, he does become quite an asset in the Shadow World, yet we see him struggle with the fact that he has been turned into a monster, from a mundane that is trying to drag clary out of this world.  At this stage we see clary still seeking answers to why her mother didn't want her to be part of the Shadow world, we do very quickly find out why and we get a look into the mindsets of the Shadow hunters to the "Mundane," world.  We see in this clip that Jace is very confident in his abilities and isn't impressed with Simon at all, he thinks that Clary would be better off without him yet in the first couple of days we see that Simon sees how th

Alec, Magnus and Maryse a lesson in healing.

This is a continuation of a series I am doing on the relationships in the shadow world, as I see that it can cause trauma and help heal trauma as we see that it's not only the young shadow hunters that grow up and face their reality it is everyone in the Shadow world. As well as the fact that the Show and books have left a lasting legacy, not just fandom but the "Shadow family," I admit that I am not the typical age for Young Adult content but I grew up with the books and the reality is they and the shows dealt with a lot of real-world issues, and we are finding that a lot of people like young adult content in books and shows anyway as it is a way to connect with the younger people in there lives. If you are a part of the Shadow family feel free to comment about what your take is on the way that I am seeing the characters and how it relates to "reality," whatever that be for you.  Alec asks Maryse for the Lightwood ring | Shadowhunters 3x16 - YouTube I love this

Maryse Lightwood and Magnus Bane a lesson in grace Part four.

This is a continuation of a series around Maryse Lightwood and trauma however I am focusing on her growth in relationships as she has a lot of emotional growth around the time Magnus loses his magic and can see the error of her past ways and be able to support Magnus, and her family in a kinder more emotionally supportive way.  Without relationships, we can't grow as humans.  Maryse Comes To The Institute! - Shadowhunter 3x6 'Spend Some Time With My Wonderful Children!' - YouTube   This is such a great example of Shunning, we see that Maryse has been de run and has to find a new purpose in life. We do see her and Luke working in a bookshop that a warlock owned. ( a throwback to the books where Luke owns the bookstore). They can source information about a demonic artifact that could separate Clary from Jonathan.  So she can buy it and this is where Alec gets the idea to send Magus after his breakdown to help her decorate the new business  ( I have a very early post that I am

Maryse Lightwood a progression in grace Part 3

This is a continuation of the series on Maryse as she has one of the biggest character developments in the show. She can grow and accept her past and stop running from it. I was planning only a four-part series yet talking to a friend she has pointed out some other things that will be in another post about how her changes change the way that people respond to her, as she has started to take her walls down and be her true self.  Shadowhunters 3x03 | Maryse, Alec, and Magnus dinner Part 1 - YouTube I love this clip as it shows that there is a bond starting to form between Maryse Alec and Magnus, as we do see that the one thing out of all of Magnus's experiences is something more Mundane, which is having dinner with the family that would become his in-laws. Something that terrifies most people.  As family dynamics can be an interesting concept to some people and given his experience with the Shadow hunters he has seen how cruel they can be, given his history with the Herondales. Howev

The Mundane's guide to the Shadow world down worlders Vampire's and the links to disablity.

Down worlders    These are Supernatural beings and hybrid creatures who inhabit the Shadow world is the widely used term to refer to beings that are said to be part human and part demon or have a disease of demonic origin. Downworlders are even said to be the demonic counterpart of Shadowhunters, who are part human and part angel. They include werewolves, vampires, warlocks, and fairies, they have counted as denizens of heaven. This post will focus on Vampires and their role in the Shadow world and how they can operate in this world and adapt, we will also look at the links to disability in this type of down worlder.  So generally vampires   also known as the Children of the Night, are a species.  Downworlders along with werewolves, and vampires are humans infected with a demon disease. However, unlike the former, vampires are considered "undead".  Being undead,, they have been brought back to life or "sired," by another vampire.  In the Shadow World, they live in
