As he knows the Shadow World and where did the deep mistrust come from as in the books he has had Shadowhunters living with him and him actively working with the Clave in the past.  Magnus Bane | The Shadowhunters' Wiki | Fandom    In the show, Magnus seems to have a deep mistrust of Shadowhunters and isn't welcome in the institute, yet in the past when he was living in London, he references this in the show that he was deeply unhappy with where he was at. So he moved to New York, and started again, he seems to have a good relationship with Luke in the show, yet we see that Magus seems to know Luke and his history with Valentine and the Circle.  We also see how he became a Downworlder and this seems to be where Magnus's relationship with Luke has become more cordial as ...

I am going to do a much more in depth look at how these situations can cause trauma and how they relate to real world. In other posts I have done a look at Alec and Magnus but this will be the start of a series on how these situations relate to the real world and how having trauma in your life can complicate things. The first thing about this relationship is that Alec and Mangus both in the books and show have a very complicated relationship due to the fact that Magnus is immortal, and he has seen the way the shadow hunters treated down worlders, before the accords. They treated downworlders like second class people and even hunted them for sport at times.   So we see this struggle of how to keep a relationship alive when there is prejudice on one side and a long history of relationships on the other and how to balance this imbalance of power in the relationship. So this post has been an interesting one to write, it seems to me that in the book Simon and TV Simon are very different and there are comic cons and things that explore this as well. This is because the TV show and the books are very different art forms and the way that they were adopted is a story in and of itself, as there was a movie made first but it didn't really do well.  However, the TV show did take some liberties with the plot lines however it has been made clear that it was to do with ratings and as I have said in other posts they have essentially made some of the more "controversial," relationships in the books healthy to the point the actors have won awards for their relationship on screen.  However, due to the show's cancelation, they weren't able to continue with some of the plots that they wanted to, with relationships, and continue with some of the plot lines of the books.  So this is a post that I have been wanting to write for a while, it is an interesting one to get into and I went deep down the rabbit hole that is the "Shadowhunter's fam". But there is so much in this show that isn't overt and one thing that hasn't really been explored in the Magnus and Alec relationship is that they both help each other heal from trauma. Psychological trauma - Wikipedia    Magnus is a magical warlock that presents as a male, who has been in an abusive relationship. While Alec has been brought up to suppress his emotions and in the TV series was willing to go into an arranged marriage to save his family name (a bead or lavender marriage). We see from the first season that Alec cares for Magnus and doesn't presume as the other Shadowhunters do that Magnus can use his magic to fix things.
