Magnus and other downworlders - Simon.

So this post has been an interesting one to write, it seems to me that in the book Simon and TV Simon are very different and there are comic cons and things that explore this as well. This is because the TV show and the books are very different art forms and the way that they were adopted is a story in and of itself, as there was a movie made first but it didn't really do well.  However, the TV show did take some liberties with the plot lines however it has been made clear that it was to do with ratings and as I have said in other posts they have essentially made some of the more "controversial," relationships in the books healthy to the point the actors have won awards for their relationship on screen.

However, due to the show's cancelation, they weren't able to continue with some of the plots that they wanted to, with relationships, and continue with some of the plot lines of the books.

In previous posts, I talked about Magnus being connected to Camille and how she and Magnus talk about how she has sired hundreds of vampires and they are her children, and the fact that  Magnus can't have any, however, this is where the books and the TV show have Magnus still as a very different character but in very subtle ways.

In the books his life is very much intertwined with the Shadowhunter's as he was able to charge for his services even before coming into his powers, and being the son of a powerful prince of hell, he has massive powers and this is referenced in the show as well as the books.

In the books, Simon is also a very different character,  from the TV series but we need to remember that the TV show and the Books are very different and aimed a very different demographics.

In the books, Simon has a full band and this band is replaced with Maurine and then him as a solo act, yet he keeps the same "spirit," as Simon in the show is being dragged into the Shadow World with Clary.

Yet this is something interesting from the show and books is how they have clary lose her memory, not Simon. I see that this is to be able if possible to continue the show. If another network or streaming service was able to pick it up.

However Magnus again with his ties to the down world, does help Simon as Magnus both in the books and the show seems to be the peacekeeper for the downloaders with the cabinet meeting, and when Alec in the show has the Down worlder and Shadowhunter meetings.

Magnus being able to help Simon is in character with Magnus helping other Down worlders, despite all the partying, he at his core is willing to help the Down world. Due to his own history,  he explains in this clip that his relationship with Camille is complicated as they were able to help Will Herondall, Jem Carstairs, and Tessa Gray and this deserves its own post as it is an important backstory in the show.

This is why mentioning Blackfriars bridge is such an important moment in the show as this is where Jem and Tessa meet once a year on Blackfriars bridge due to them being married,  and yes where Magnus as a teen was lost and the story is changed from the books to the show but opening up to Simon about this is huge as it shows that Magnus has a very "complicated," past and how people can change for better or worse.

This clip shows Magnus telling Simon to man up and it also shows how intertwined Magnus's relationship with Camille is to this day.  Magnus agrees to help Simon find Camille as he is in danger from Raphael the New York clan leader. Because Simon can walk in the sunlight. This makes him jealous of Simon.

Shadowhunters 2x02 ~ Simon and Magnus Talk - YoTube

This is a great clip and shows Magnus's relationship not only with Camille but with Simon telling him what he needs to hear and at this point in time, it is that he needs to man up and in being able to man up and use his abilities. This is an interesting deviation from the books as in the books Simon has a much stronger character and is much more willing to help as he can drive however the show aged up the characters to be able to explore some of the plots from the book that would be more appropriate for that age group and not teens as I do believe that in the books they are all teens and this makes sense that they aged up the characters.
