Jace and Mind impact on people around him.

This is so important to talk about as it makes sense to me as Jace does have a shift in his mindset and we see that this is not a good thing as we see that he starts to mature in a way and he understands in a way what clary is going through as it makes sense to me.  That he was taken in by the light woods, at the age of 10  but knew he was a shadow hunter whereas Clary doesn't know that she is a shadow hunter so she needs to be taught as an adult what being a shadow hunter means.

Also, Jace knows that his abilities are good and he is one of the best as he has been told this from a young age as well.  But we do understand as well, that the world is brutal but the family dynamics can be interesting and complex depending on the missions they are tasked with as well. As we see that the shadow world is brutal, at times and it does at times impact the Shadow hunters in a very real way.

Jace knows that he has good skills but forgets his mission at times,  as he is in love he has found his one true love in Clary, and at times we see that he forgets or has a very complex relationship with Alec as well as they are parabatai; and this bond is angelic and they are bonded that they are closer than marred that if one dies a part of the other dies as well. So this makes it very complex as well that they can feel the emotions of the other. But they aren't allowed to be romantically involved as this causes them to become more powerful, so they do have romantic relationships but we see in one very funny clip that Jace has very solid self-esteem, in that he sees himself and alec as a package deal.

This is shown in that when he isn't welcome in the institute he knows that Alec will advocate for him and he just expects to be housed at Magnus's place,  and then indirectly tells Magus that if he hurts Alec he will have consequences, it is funny to me as Mangus is a warlock and is immortal they just seem to accept Magnus help because he is Alec's boyfriend at the time, yet Magnus probably has a deeper understanding of the mental health of the shadow hunters and has seen a lot of change, in this world and the mundane world. ( I have a Patreon  post about this as well.)  Magnus would have seen the shadow hunters go from hunting down worlders to the accords to the cold peace, and beyond.

It is very complex that Jace would have the self-esteem to be able to tell a warlock that if he hurts his parabatai; it would end badly for him, but we see that Jace and Magnus do come to an understanding of sorts, and even a partnership as Mangus sacrifices his Magic for Alec and Jace at times as well, this isn't something the warlocks do easily as well, it to me shows that he sees the parabataibond as almost a sacred bond.  As he would have seen so parabatai; relationships end very badly, particularly Luke and Valentine.   Also if you are a fan of the books Emma and Julian see this curse as because they fall in romantic love we see that they become," True, Nephilim," so bringers of justice to the. "Shadow  worlds."

This I see would be a very complex road as the bond is not only a spiritual one but a physical one as well. I have written about this relationship before as well.

Shadowhunters 2x14 ~ Jace and Sebastian talk about Clary - YouTube So this clip shows what trauma that Jace went through as a child and how he was abused as a child that Valentine would break his finger to teach him to play, yet it is through the mistakes and being kind that we develop into kind loving functional humans. This is complex as we see that the shadow hunters are and aren't brought up like this we see that their parents know that this world is brutal and that they need to be prepared for it, we see that this is a major issue as well that he is cocky as Maryse knows the trauma he has been through and gives him the respect that he hasn't earnt we see that in contrast Alec is constantly judged to the point of poor mental health at times, and says to Maryse that she always told him that she told them that he was never good enough and he is looking to be good enough for her and looking for this validation that he is ok just the way he is, we see that it's Magnus that brings this validation to Alec in a very kind way as just as Alec gives Magnus the stability he needs to not party and be so hedonistic at times.

To the point that we do see a variation in the books that when Alec is possessed by a demon he kills clary's mother and he blames himself we do see that Jace has the community for compassion but it is in a very complex way as the party bond is supposed to be a way that the shadow hunters have support in battle and someone to talk to even when times are tough.  Shadowhunters 2x05 ~ Alec and Jace Talk. Alec blames himself for everything - YouTube

We see that Alec does find that because of this difference in upbringing we see that his mental health suffers much more than Jace and that this is talked about as we see Alec self-harming where Jace was harmed by other people and that causes harm to him and they don't see that this is a bad thing, as it was part of Jace's childhood and that we can see that their childhood is training them for being a shadow hunter and they chose their weapons at 10 so we see that Alec is using his bow. However Jace can feel his pain and suffering so the lines of communication must be open at this point in time it is still very complex and Alec feels like he has to be perfect as he is the head of the institute, however, it is Magnus that he goes to for comfort and this goes back to understanding the previous clip that Jace was threatening Magnus in his own home when he was lodging with him.    Jace is trying to tell Alec that he wasn't in control of himself and that he doesn't need to blame himself for everything yet because of the differences in their attachment styles Alec does blame himself as he couldn't save everyone and this is the shadow hunters job.

As we see that this is the start of the dark war that starts major changes in the books and we see that Alec just explodes that he couldn't save Jace from himself essentially but in reality, you can give someone all the tools they need to get to a better place but they need to be willing to take and accept the help, we see that Jace is trying to help Alec but we see that Alec needs space and to not be in the place that it happened and that he distracts himself by trying to be perfect at his craft as being the head he wouldn't be able to get much archery practice in and having this practice is great but Alec takes it to the extreme and we do see that Magnus points out that he is not doing himself any favors by not healing himself.

This distraction is a great idea in reality as there is a branch of occupational therapy called diversional therapy that helps people with disabilities or mental health issues not focus on their lack of skills or situation but gives them the skills and supervision to be able to  develop more healthy thinking patterns in the case of people with mental health issues or in the case of people with disabilities focus on their skills, we see that in Australia the NDIS has helped many people with disabilities to develop their skills and to "step out of the shadows."

However, we need to remember that Alec is part angel and the head of the institute at this stage and we see that he needs space so in him escaping to Magnus's palace we see that he is starting to develop some healthier coping strategies. Yet we do see that Mangus knows but at the same time doesn't know what the shadow hunters go through, as yet his fellow warlocks have taught at the shadow hunter accident in Idris the shadow hunter spiritual home. It seems to me that he has a lot of knowledge of the shadow hunters but we seem to forget that Magnus has his own kind of trauma as well. Caused by the shadow hunters and some of this trauma in the relationship between Alec and Magnus was caused indirectly by Jace.

We see that Jace sees his culture but often chooses clary over Alec and this creates a lot of issues in the long run and it's not great for Alec or himself in the long run as parabaiti need to be able to talk to each other and fight alongside each other this shows great disrespect for the people around them and Jace is so used to people just accepting that he will do what he want's,  however, it is Alec that has to deal with the consequences of his actions.

In the real world this could be considered civil disobedience or disobedience of legal order as we need to remember that a shadow hunter is essentially a form of military, they have ranks and orders, but the difference is you are either made or born a shadow hunter and several families are in charge of the institute but if these family's don't keep up they risk losing control of the institute and this is what Alec needs to think about. I know that Jace knows himself well enough to say to Alec you are a leader I will always be a soldier, so hands control of the institute to Alec.  This shows a great deal of insight to know where his skills lie.  So at this point, Jace is a fully formed and developed human being.

He is also one of the first to see when Alec isn't being true to himself in a way that he can know what to say, but Alec chooses duty before his happiness yet we see that Jace knows this due to the way that they are bonded,  as they feel each other's emotions. Through this complex bond, it is complex in the way that we see it play out that it goes through so much. Due to Jace's mindset at the time and this, in reality, can play out that we get so inside our heads we don't realize that we are causing emotional harm to others, no offense but emotional harm through our actions, and this for Jace is not being there for Alec when he needs support.

So the best thing he does for himself is to seek support from Magnus, and Magnus tells Alec that it's not his fault that these things happened and to not blame himself as we need to realize that bad things do happen to good people and this is a really interesting thread to go into in the show as it is not necessarily the shadow hunters through an ill thought out actions that cause harm it's often the system that they are working within. So this system of the Laws, as we see that they often say the Law is hard but it is the law and it protects against one very important thing shadow hunters fighting other shadow hunters.  Yet we need to discuss if this is appropriate as we see that the law is tilted in favor of the Shadow hunters and that some of the Down worlds want to change, and they are prepared to cross people to do it, and this is an interesting thing of at what point do they disobey the law to prevent further harm to people, in what they are doing, as we see that are told not to interfere with down worlder affairs but because of  Jace's  "Book club," and Izzy's relationships with the Down worlders we see that this can change and does need to as it is what hinders them from doing a good job.

In finishing up this post, we see that Jace's mindset comes from a mix of places and situations that have happened to him and that it's the complexity of the shadow world that makes it difficult to be a good shadow hunter and that perfection isn't possible.
