Isabelle Lightwood and Trauma part three - Shadowhunter's

Image
(Please be aware that this post contains sensitive content around addiction and mental health issues)   So this is a continuation of the series on Izzy lightwood and trauma caused by the shadow world.  She is the Sister of Alec lightwood and Jace (who is adopted) I have talked briefly about their relationships and how this plays out, in the shadow world.   As this world is a perfect storm for creating trauma. Due to its nature and it is a great portrayal of trauma in some ways.    this sees her seeking the next fix without concern for her safety and the safety of those around her. Hitting rock bottom is a myth often it is the people you are around that force you to get help and this is why Raphael encourages her to sweat it out.  Rock bottom for Izzy is her going to the hotel de mort and threatening Raphael so the justifications, excuses the lies about where you are all symptoms of addiction.  The reality is that addiction is a disease and diseases have treatments. The treatment for Iz

The Lightwood's Izzy and Addiction - Shadow hunters

This is a continuation of the series of the Lightwood family that is talking about family dysfunction, this is the second post focusing on Izzy Lightwood and her behavior resulting from her relationships with her parents and later her brothers. We see in this clip that their mother favors political alliance's over the family's happiness, and order over comfort. Their mother needs a quick political alliance to restore their influence at the Clave, this is the organization that oversees the Shadow Hunters internationally. It is based in Alicante the Shadow Hunter's spiritual homeland. That is glamoured to Mundane much like most of the Shadow World. This leads to her seeking out relationships that don't have any real attachment to them before she meets Raphaelle and later Simon. Her secure attachment isn't to her Mother and Father it is to Alec and we see that he is the Caregiver of the siblings. Izzy is anxious in her attachment style, she is attached to her

The Lightwoods family disfunction. Izzy lightwood. Part one

( please be aware that this post contains a discussion around family trauma and eating disorders) I have written about the lightwood being a dysfunctional family even in a Fantasy show and this show during its run on free-to-air TV in the USA and now on Netflix ( depending on the country and if you have access to a Vpn (a virtual private network). It didn't shy away from talking about difficult real-world issues. Such as Addiction, Same-sex relationships, politics, and even trauma. Izzy Lightwood her full name is Isabelle Sophia Lightwood, is the youngest of the genetically related lightwood family, siblings. They also have Alec (Alexander Gideon lightwood) Max lightwood and Jace that is Adopted into the family at the age of 10 and become Alec's Parabaiti.  However, this series will focus on the show character played wonderfully by, Emeraude Toubia   Emeraude Toubia - Wikipedia   Her character in the show about the lightwood being a dysfunctional family is that she fits into b

Magnus and Raphael The downworlders series continued

Image
So Raphaelle is an interesting downworlder and isn't seen in the show as much as in the books, he is also another character that is aged up in the show, as in the books he is a teen and Magnus teaches him to control his powers and sends him back to his family.  Yet in the TV series, he is the New York clan leader that lives at a hotel de mort.   He is also intertwined with the life of Magnus as he is one of the downworlders that Magnus has taken under his wing, both in the show and in the books. Magnus's role as the High warlock seems to be a political one more than practical but still can charge for his services. We see in later episodes when Mangus isn't the high warlock him charging for his services even to the Shadowhunters.   Yet in these clips, we see that Magnus as he says in one clip that he practically raised Raphaelle, and can read him like an open book, so knows when he is being lied to.  We also see this skill come out with Alec as well.  However, in this clip,

Shadowhunters the lighwoods Alec and Izzy

( Please be aware that this contains and talks about serious mental health issues and  Suicide  )  Alec Lightwood at the start of the show is very repressed we also see a very dysfunctional family that realizes how dysfunctional they are when they are under a spell that makes them see their worse fears play out and we see that Alec internalizes a lot and blames himself for things that he isn't responsible or he doesn't have the training to deal with.   Things like letting a demon into the institute result in a large number of Shadowhunters being harmed or killed.  His sister Izzy is one of them that ends up  possesses as well as himself and he ends up killing  Clary's mother ( this is a deviation from the books and was used as a plot device to have Clary come of age more dramatically)  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqtbY89QfL8 We start to see the mental health burden on Alec that years of being told he isn't good enough play out in reality.   https://www.youtube.com/

Shadowhunter's and family disfunction - The Lightwoods.

Image
So I was writing a post about the Relationship of the Lightwood family and I realized that this Family has all of the hallmarks of being very dysfunctional is very dysfunctional. The mother Maryse is obsessed with the family image to the detriment of the family and each of the siblings seems to fall into the trope of a person within a dysfunctional family.  Dysfunctional family - Wikipedia  This isn't a  healthy environment for anyone to grow up in yet they do manage to heal after being exposed to a spell that shows people's worst fears through hallucinations, that were caused after being cast by a warlock that is looking for Magnus as he rescued one of her warlock children due to the situation she was living in and she was being used by several people for her magic.  This spell brings out people's worst fears and we see the effects of the life that the Shadowhunters are currently living.  Especially Alec as we see throughout the show that he blames himself for things that

Shadowhunter's the Alternative dimension and how they are different.

Image
This is a great episode and one that shows a very different side of the charcters as in the dimension the Shadowhunter's where so good at there jobs they weren't needed anymore and so the don't exist anymore.   Clary has been sent through a portal into this dimension due to one of the Seelie's having a life debt with her and it is payment for the life debt. They are helping her find the portal that the shard that her mother gave her. It leads her to this dimension and it is were the roles have been flipped. It is a dimension that is peaceful and free from demons and therefore the institute is a internet research facility not the Shadowhunter's home and facility. We see what the Shadowhunter's would be if they weren't needed to protect the world from demons and essentially policing the down world. So we see Clary studying art, Jace running a coffee van, Izzy and Alec working for the institute and Magnus as a Tarot card reader and psychic. Simon is also

Shadowhunter's Malec and other relationships. - Robert and Maryse lightwood.

So this is a post that I have really wanted to do for a while as we start to see Alec stand up to people in his life and standing up to your family is the hardest thing that you will do especially as a person with a disablity. As they want to protect you but you want to be challenged yourself to live your best life. However what that life is is different for everyone even without a disablity due to the decisions they made and the circumstance's that they where born into. Alec didn't make the decision for himself at what he was to be in life he was essentially born to be a Shadowhunter and that is his world. He even states directly that he will never understand "Mundane's," as his world that he has been brought up in is the Shadoworld.  We start to see the disapproval of his family as yes it would have been better to call off the Wedding to not embarrass  Lydia and his family, however we see that Alec really up until the last minute does believe he is doing the

Magnus and his connections to the Shadow hunters

Image
Magnus has had a long and rich life and it has been full of twists and turns but as it turns out being an immortal character he has seen things change over the many years he has been alive, we see that he can see perspective's that others can't and we see that he has a deep mistrust of the Shadowhunter's due to the way that they have treated downworlders, we see that he has watched the Shadoworld change and he has had to change with it.  I am aware that these clips are out of chronological order however it is to give people an overview of Magnus and how he fits into the world and I will do much more in-depth look at the relationships at a later date.  This like how he ties into the down world will be a series as when I started writing it I started reading the YouTube comments and this brought a different spin on things that I hadn't considered.  Shadowhunters 1x11. Magnus and Alec. I'll do you pro bono - YouTube  - He has seen the Shadowhunter's own history play

Magnus and Alec - how it started and the links to disablity.

Image
This is such a great clip and well acted and is such a great way of showing, how conflicted Alec is as Alec is suffering the consequence's that Clary coming into his life has come to a head and is essentially an arranged Marriage with Lydia Bramwell. A family that Mangus has had contact with. Lydia isn't in the books but is a link to the Bramwell family that Magnus was good friends with as the children were running the institute. This is the link to the glitter that Magus in the books loves, yet due to the risks to Harry Shum jr, the glitter was toned down. It shows that Magnus is interested in Alec and not just as a Shadowhunter as in the books he is the spitting image of a Shadowhunter called Will Herondale. As Magnus's life in the books was intrinsically tied to Will and therefore Camille at the time, it is mentioned in the show and it is a deviation about how Camille did save Magnus from himself.  Yet in the books, Magnus was found by the silent brothers and educa
