History of the instutions for the disabled in Austalia. A general overview Part one

History of institutions for the disabled, in Australia.   A general overview. So I have done a broad outline of what is the history of institutions for the disabled in Australia we don’t have a lot of broad information about disability and how it was thought about because Australia generally does follow the trends of London up until the 1900s and we started following the USA in a lot of things. However we see that one thing that has always been the same is how we cared for our disabled people, so we see that they generally were depending on the means that people had they lived with their families.   Or if they couldn’t they were taken to children’s homes and some still exist in some form however we see family-based care is much more prevalent, now as well.   As well as what is called supported independent living. If they didn’t they lived in an institution, so in Toowoomba, we had hameworth children at home and we had Bailey Henderson insane facility. [i] [ii]   Baily Hende

The Shadow world causing trauma and responding to mental health issues.

This is such an interesting post to write about as I have grown so much as a writer in doing this blog and the trauma that comes into the Shadow world is very real and listening and spending time with people who work with people with complex trauma has given me a very different perspective on it.  So please I do welcome you to start the conversation on the blog and to suggest to me content ideas as well.   I  am now starting to look at this through a wider lens one that says that we are all humans and that these guys are human as well and that this humanity is what their relationship's so complex as well as the fact that they are willing to sacrifice themselves for the good of humanity. I see that this is a good thing however we do see that it comes at a price for most of them. In that, the mission comes first this could be as simple as finding out where demons are coming from or as complex as a mission to banish a greater demon back to the realm it came from in the shadow world.

The Shadow world and Mental Health. Alec Lightwood.

Warning this contains a discussion about self-harm and attempted suicide.   So this is a continuation of the posts about Alec and his Mother Maryse lightwood, they have quite a rocky relationship and it is difficult to see this and how it affects him as it really does affect him quite badly at times. However with her progression into a really well-adjusted human she can face the consequences of her actions and admit that she has been wrong in the past, it is one of the hardest things for a person to do.  So this will focus on the relationship development in season 3 as it is where they have the strongest relationship in the show and can heal from the wounds they gave each other to become successful adults, whether in the mundane world or in the Shadow world.  In researching the posts focusing on Maryse I now realize that it's really that it's a combination of both the world and the situations that they are put into as we see that Mary was trying to protect her children and r

Magnus and the Down world Relationships.  This is a continuation of Magnus's relationships and how he is very well connected to the Down world. It focuses on Asmodeus who we discover is his father. We also discover that Alec is relieved that it wasn't one of his exes. As we see that is why Magnus is so powerful as his magic comes from a prince of hell, which is mentioned in most of the    Abrahamic religions. Very early on in the show, we realize that it is set in a very Judeo -Christian world yet we see that angels are almost worshiped.  So Asmodeus being mentioned is a very real way of tying this into what we can see as a mirror of the real world.  I am talking about several clips and how Magus relates to his father and the difficulties they have as adults trying to reconnect when one is more concerned about power than balancing it with compassion.  Shadowhunters 3x02 | Magnus tells Alec about his father - YouTube  This clip shows Magnus and Alec working really well together

Maryse and Alec - The lightwood family dynamics Shadowhunters families.

This is a post that will focus on the relationship within the Shadow hunter's family the lightwood this is focusing on the development of the relationship that Alec has with his mother, as it goes from a very toxic and demanding one to one of two fully emotionally developed adults.   As Maryse goes through a road to Damascus moment, in her life in being de ran, and essentially excommunicated from the shadow hunters and she needs help to adjust the person who helps her to do this is Magnus as he is going through a tough time himself, and this gives Maryse pause for thought in how she has treated people and her own family. I was going to do a post on the second season but for some reason, I can't bring myself to do it, I am finding that I have hit a brick wall, with this and I think I have very similar family members that I perceive are at me most of the time. I haven't made great decisions in the past so I am rebuilding my life as well and I think that this is why I can'

Maryse a lesson in grace. Part Two Shadow hunter's

Please be aware that this post contains a discussion on Suicide and Trauma  This is a continuation of this series looking at the mental health of the Shadow Hunters focusing on Maryse.  We are going to focus on the second season and her growth as the challenges of the Shadow world become more complex and Clary coming into the world has changed things fundamentally.  Shadowhunters S02E01 Alec and Maryse - YouTube  In this clip we see that even in the second season where they believe that Jace is Valentine's son, we see that she is still trying to be in total control of the situation. However, as Alec says does she even realize what she is saying as he is Alec's parabaiti ,  and they are bonded in a way that if you kill one of them you kill a part of the other person.  She still believes that she can keep the legacy of the family name ok, as we see that the lightwoods have a legacy to uphold and this way on her, however, Alec seems to push back from her as we have seen him grow s

Clary and Simon and the Shadow world. Season One Shadowhunter's.

So this is going to be possibly another series of posts about this relationship as it does progress and show's how making decisions on behalf of others can lead to unexpected consequences this starts with Simon trying to protect Clary as they are young adults and he knows nothing about this world and because he can't see what Clary can see he tries to protect her as the assumptions is that she is on something and this is creating problems.  Yet when he discovers she can see the "Shadow world," and he can't he is concerned as a good friend should be yet Jace can show Simon what Clary can see in later episodes in this season.  Jess Penner - "Don't Come Over" Music | Shadowhunters Season 1, Episode 1 | Freeform - YouTube It does create massive problems for the Shadowhunters, due to her ( in the first series) not realizing she is the daughter of one of their own who went rogue. Thinking that some agreements that were made are, a little too lenient on th

Maryse Lightwood - Shadowhunters A lesson in progression and grace Part one.

Maryse Lightwood is the Mother of Alec and Isabelle lightwood and the adopted mother of Jace, who was left in the Lightwood family's care at 10 years of age. In the first and second seasons is married to Robert lightwood and they are the heads of the New York institute.  This clip show's us how Maryse is in the first season very " no-nonsense," her body language and dress show that she means business. This is a very authoritative personality style that ties into her role in the show which is as the head of an institute. It shows us how she conducts her everyday life.  It also tells us that they are mostly away at Idris most of the time and leave Alec in charge. ( This is a variation from the books we see that because they are teens that Hodge their tutor is  their guardian.)    She is very domineering and demanding to Izzy and Alec but very compassionate to Jace. ( I will do a post on him being the "golden child").   As Clary says it shows a window into the

Isabelle Lightwood and Trauma part three - Shadowhunter's

Image
(Please be aware that this post contains sensitive content around addiction and mental health issues)   So this is a continuation of the series on Izzy lightwood and trauma caused by the shadow world.  She is the Sister of Alec lightwood and Jace (who is adopted) I have talked briefly about their relationships and how this plays out, in the shadow world.   As this world is a perfect storm for creating trauma. Due to its nature and it is a great portrayal of trauma in some ways.    this sees her seeking the next fix without concern for her safety and the safety of those around her. Hitting rock bottom is a myth often it is the people you are around that force you to get help and this is why Raphael encourages her to sweat it out.  Rock bottom for Izzy is her going to the hotel de mort and threatening Raphael so the justifications, excuses the lies about where you are all symptoms of addiction.  The reality is that addiction is a disease and diseases have treatments. The treatment for Iz

The Lightwood's Izzy and Addiction - Shadow hunters

This is a continuation of the series of the Lightwood family that is talking about family dysfunction, this is the second post focusing on Izzy Lightwood and her behavior resulting from her relationships with her parents and later her brothers. We see in this clip that their mother favors political alliance's over the family's happiness, and order over comfort. Their mother needs a quick political alliance to restore their influence at the Clave, this is the organization that oversees the Shadow Hunters internationally. It is based in Alicante the Shadow Hunter's spiritual homeland. That is glamoured to Mundane much like most of the Shadow World. This leads to her seeking out relationships that don't have any real attachment to them before she meets Raphaelle and later Simon. Her secure attachment isn't to her Mother and Father it is to Alec and we see that he is the Caregiver of the siblings. Izzy is anxious in her attachment style, she is attached to her

Magnus and Raphael The downworlders series continued

So Raphaelle is an interesting downworlder and isn't seen in the show as much as in the books, he is also another character that is aged up in the show, as in the books he is a teen and Magnus teaches him to control his powers and sends him back to his family.  Yet in the TV series, he is the New York clan leader that lives at a hotel de mort.   He is also intertwined with the life of Magnus as he is one of the downworlders that Magnus has taken under his wing, both in the show and in the books. Magnus's role as the High warlock seems to be a political one more than practical but still can charge for his services. We see in later episodes when Mangus isn't the high warlock him charging for his services even to the Shadowhunters.   Yet in these clips, we see that Magnus as he says in one clip that he practically raised Raphaelle, and can read him like an open book, so knows when he is being lied to.  We also see this skill come out with Alec as well.  However, in this clip,
