Maryse a lesson in grace. Part Two Shadow hunter's

This is a continuation of this series looking at the mental health of the Shadow Hunters focusing on Maryse.  We are going to focus on the second season and her growth as the challenges of the Shadow world become more complex and Clary coming into the world has changed things fundamentally. 

Shadowhunters S02E01 Alec and Maryse - YouTube In this clip we see that even in the second season where they believe that Jace is Valentine's son, we see that she is still trying to be in total control of the situation. However, as Alec says does she even realize what she is saying as he is Alec's parabaiti, and they are bonded in a way that if you kill one of them you kill a part of the other person. 

She still believes that she can keep the legacy of the family name ok, as we see that the lightwoods have a legacy to uphold and this way on her, however, Alec seems to push back from her as we have seen him grow some self-esteem, and learns when he needs to escape what is a very intense environment. 

Shadowhunters | Season 2, Episode 8 Sneak Peek: Max Lightwood Returns to the Institute | Freeform - YouTube   Max returns and we see that he is starting to pick up on the family drama however after Max's party we see that she grows as a person as when she was under the spell the fact that her Eldest son nearly committed suicide. We see her making excuses and under the UN conventions the line that she utters "I was just following orders," isn't deemed as an excuse if it is in contravention of the rules of war or other treaties. I found this to be a  line that is chilling to a lot of people who have read a world history book as this is no excuse when the order is in contravention with the UN conventions on war and human rights. (a post on the clave is coming it will be after I move as I am moving out of boarding with my parents as I got very physically and mentally unwell this past two years and had to move back home)  

We also see her making excuses for the fact that their father is coming home for what is the Shadow hunter's equivalent of conformation into society they are treated as young adults in this world because Shadow hunters can die young yet they are still in training as we do see later in the series that Izzy becomes his tutor and trainer. Yet she is showing that she is starting to change and have compassion for what her children have gone through.

(This is an episode that I encourage you not to watch alone as it discusses very heavy mental health topics.) 

Jace was hallucinating and the spell that the warlock Iris rose had cast made them see their worst fears. So Jace's worst fear is being rejected by his adoptive parents and siblings. So this is him seeing his worst fears. 

This party for Max's rune ceremony   was hosted at Magnus's apartment due to Alec forcing Maryse to see that he and Magnus weren't just a "fling." This is in stark contrast to her being completely horrified to realize that her son was gay. ( However, let's admit the way he came out wasn't exactly the best idea 😉) and dating a down worlder this in the books or a mundane that is grounds for denying and expulsion from the shadow hunters world.

This clip is a major progression in both Izzy's and Maryse's parts the fact that they are communicating and not being told what they need to do is a form of communication called compassionate or nonviolent communication.  

It is based on the fact that both parties need to be heard and respected however that there may be issues around how they have communicated in the past. We see that with Maryse now has a very different communication style, from what she used to and yes they were quite hostile to each other in the past

 So they are talking honestly and openly, about secrets they have been keeping from each other Izzy knowing about their father's affair and Izzy's addiction. Maryse we see has accepted that her oldest son is gay and is happy with Magnus, this is in stark contradiction to what we had seen in the past regarding her view on her children's relationships.  We also see her actively encouraging Izzy not to give up on love and for her to go for what she wants in a loving relationship.

  Why I can’t learn to love my disability My Disability is a part of me yet I can’t learn to love it, but I can learn to accept it. To accept that I will always be different. Be the person who will never have a normal life and whose family will get frustrated with me, because I used to be able to do so many things for myself, but now I can’t and will need support for the rest of my life. I can’t love it because of the way my life has played out, I can’t be an inspiration because it does hold me back in ways that frustrate me and my family as we always thought I could live a normal life, but I am coming to the realization I can’t and that this will impact me and everyone in my life. What a support worker can do for you and what the can't part one my story with support

 I need people to be aware that this blog post is from my lived experience as a person with a disability.  It is something that we do need to talk about is that I have talked at length about it in other blog posts so it needs to be talked about this is what a support worker can and can’t do for someone and this is a difficult topic to be objective about for me because I have had very poor care and at the same time fantastic care.  I can’t seem to reconcile the two together as it has kept me off balance for a long time, but a support worker is there to help you to be more independent and not less independent and we see that this can be a massive issue if a person doesn’t know what good support work looks like.  Or is unable to define what their limits are for a support worker working with challenging clients.  This could potentially be quite dangerous due to a person not being able to speak up due to experiences with support workers in the past and this is where the support worker n
