Clary and Simon and the Shadow world. Season One Shadowhunter's.

So this is going to be possibly another series of posts about this relationship as it does progress and show's how making decisions on behalf of others can lead to unexpected consequences this starts with Simon trying to protect Clary as they are young adults and he knows nothing about this world and because he can't see what Clary can see he tries to protect her as the assumptions is that she is on something and this is creating problems.  Yet when he discovers she can see the "Shadow world," and he can't he is concerned as a good friend should be yet Jace can show Simon what Clary can see in later episodes in this season.

It does create massive problems for the Shadowhunters, due to her ( in the first series) not realizing she is the daughter of one of their own who went rogue. Thinking that some agreements that were made are, a little too lenient on the "Down worlders." our equivalent would be The UN treaties.

Clary and Simon are dragged into a world that they didn't know even existed as it was glamoured, by what the people in the shadow world call Mundanes.

It makes not only the Shadow hunter's world turn upside down but Simon and Clary's world as well as making one decision can lead to a series of decisions that affect others around you. However, we do wonder if  Joslyn's decision to hide Clary from the shadow world was the start of the decisions. This is a whole other topic on free will vs determinism.

Shadowhunters Reduced BGMusic 01x02 - Alec asks why Simon is at the Institute - YouTube

We see that Alec is the rational one in asking questions about why Simon is in the institute, as in the first couple of episodes we see that Clary and Simon are a package deal, they look out for each other.

This clip shows a great response to Clary having to make a decision that would affect the life of someone else and has a parallel in the real world of making medical decisions for them. He believes that he is a monster and he is ungrateful for Clary making him a vampire as this fundamentally changes his life.  It also puts his family and friends at risk.  He just wants to be a normal young adult going to college and working on his music, he in the books has a full band but we do see Maurine being concerned for him.

This parallel in disability is adult guardianship, a concept where decisions are made by someone else, on behalf of that person however as we have seen this can be abused and misused to the benefit of the trustees, not the person. A better usage is the usage of a concept called dignity of risk.

This gives people the right to make their own decisions even when their care team or families have given them all of the information about what could go wrong and decide to do it anyway. We see this conflict with the Duty of care that Alec is showing when he questions why Simon is in the institute. As Simon and Clary present a risk to the whole world, and not knowing about the Shadow world puts both of them at risk. By making the decision to turn him into a Vampire she drags him into her world not as an equal but as a Down Worlder a being that is looked down on as an almost second-class denizen of the Shadow World. "They don't know what they have to go through just to get through the day,"  is a line that Mia says in this season and it is so true it is like a person with a chronic health condition or a disability facing judgment and discrimination.  Also, Simon believes he is a monster and people will fear him, he didn't want to be part of this world, however, he does learn to enjoy it. Shadowhunters | Season 1, Episode 8: Simon Runs Away | Freeform - YouTube

Many people with a disability do believe that they are monsters and not in a powerful change-the-world kind of way but in a way that has a concept called learned helplessness where they believe they are victims of their situation,  I am aware that some people often are yet some people have disabilities through asking for help they can improve their circumstances. There are many government assistance programs and charities that are willing to help as well as starting with the community library.
