Simon and the mark of Cain



 This is a variation from the books as Clary was the one that gave Simon the mark of Cain, in the show, it is the Seely queen. ( The Queen of the faeries) This is such a great variation and ties into the Relationship in the show that shows the complexity of this world, it is a great example of all the legends that are true. The mark of Cain has been shown in various ways in media as well as in history books as we are starting to see most legends are based on some type of truth or a person's misfortune.

We see that the Seely queen thinks that this is a blessing, but it is a curse, as again my lens is a disability and it seems that people who see people living on a government income is a great way to live, yet it isn't as most people with a disability live in poverty or have to rely on charities at time's weather that be family or friends or formal charities. The formality of this ceremony sees that they take this mark seriously.

The history of this mark is that it activates when he is threatened and when someone tried to harm him the harm is rebounded 7 times. There is a great discussion about this, and we do see that when Simon does get threatened, he isn't in control of what it does. We see him turn people into a pillar of salt as salt was a symbol of wrath in the bible and a warning about looking back as it was important in the economy in biblical times, as it could be easily harvested. It is also a metaphor for leaving what is left behind and being able to rebuild your life. We see this in lots' wife as well she looked back and turned into a pillar of Salt, in fleeing Sodom and Gomora. In rebuilding your life, it isn't something that isn't really easily done at times, but we do see that Simon has a lot of support to do this, as many people need to rebuild their lives several through no fault of their own at times. As the mark of Cain, it cripples him at times, and many conditions like this can cripple people who don't want to leave the house.
Simon Blasts Raphael With His Marc Off Cain! - Shadowhunters 3x3 'I Said Not Now!' - YouTube   We see that when Raphael was down he didn't want to talk yet Simon still not being great at picking his times, to asking for information we do see that when he is feeling any type of negative emotion that the mark activates and he can't control it, he does learn to control the gifts that come with being a vampire and a day lighter but not the mark of Cain so this is an interesting concept that goes back to  Simon feeling like he is a risk to other people if he goes out and he feels like he would be a risk to other people. Yet many people can go out with support due to them being a danger to themselves. Not through self-harm, but through conditions that they can't control, things as ADHD, Bipolar disorder, and other mental health conditions. However, with the right level of support and education, they can live very productive and healthy lives. We do see Simon have support to seek answers for his condition as he calls it, In this clip, we see Simon and Izzy searching for a vampire, that lives in NY the New York subway.

This vampire turns out to be Cain as in the Cain and Able in the bible, we see that Able was called the first Martyr, as was killed out of jealousy for Able, the story goes that they were both offering sacrifices yet Ables pleased God but Cain's didn't as Able was performing the sacrifices with a willing heart but Cain out of duty and obligation. So he was marked by God to wander for his life and not be accepted by people, so this turned into a legend of being immortal in some esoteric traditions dating back to the Mesopotamian flood myths. That is very similar to Noah and building the Arc, as it's not just a physical Arc but an emotional Arc as we see that Noah had his family on the Arc as well and this kept him on track emotionally as well, Noah was able to provide for his family and we do see that this was a good thing. Being able to fill your roles in society is a great way to increase your self-esteem.

Shadowhunters 3x12 'DIE!' - YouTube This is the clip we see when Simon finds Cane and hears his story and what really happened, and this is a great re-telling of what happened and how it happened, as it goes into intentions behind why he did and how it emotionally affected him and how actions have long-lasting consequence's.  However we do see Simon being able to reach out to him and seek answers and Cain can have some closure, in his life by helping others.  

Simon's Mark Of Cain Activates - Shadowhunters 3x2 'Simon Watch Out!'' - YouTube This shows how powerful the mark can be and how it can damage people so he is kicked out of his home for this and it shows that he wasn't aware of his own power, even as a vampire, so it is hard for people to see what needs to happen at times, due to not being aware of their own power's, as we all have the power to control our thoughts and actions, as well as our deeds and being aware of the motivations, behind these actions, as we see like Cain that Simon has to have the right motivation, around what he is doing, as acting out of anger and frustration gets him to know where. As we are discovering that as many people with disabilities get angry and frustrated due to not being able to do things for themselves, however with the right level of support after this happens he is kicked out of the Jade wolf and is living in his van, however, we do see that Luke does call and an organization called the Praetor Lupus an organization that's purpose is to help troubled down worlders, so they manipulate a situation where they can have a wolf become a roommate with Simon, yet this story arc deserves its own post. As it goes into Jordan/Kyles on the story with other characters on the show. 

Lilith Finds Out That Simon Is A Daylighter! - Shadowhunters 3x07 'It Was A Vampire!' - YouTube We also see that one of the greater villains isn't immune to Simons's mark and that it does have consequences, but we see that he is powerful and that this could derail her plans as she is planning to resurrect her son through her demonic means. So, Simon having this power is a threat to her plans and the Shadow hunters can use it to their advantage, but Alec isn't still impressed with having him around at this stage but tolerates him and sees that he will always be around in some ways in his life either due to Clarry's connections or Izzy's connections with him.

  Why I can’t learn to love my disability My Disability is a part of me yet I can’t learn to love it, but I can learn to accept it. To accept that I will always be different. Be the person who will never have a normal life and whose family will get frustrated with me, because I used to be able to do so many things for myself, but now I can’t and will need support for the rest of my life. I can’t love it because of the way my life has played out, I can’t be an inspiration because it does hold me back in ways that frustrate me and my family as we always thought I could live a normal life, but I am coming to the realization I can’t and that this will impact me and everyone in my life. What a support worker can do for you and what the can't part one my story with support

 I need people to be aware that this blog post is from my lived experience as a person with a disability.  It is something that we do need to talk about is that I have talked at length about it in other blog posts so it needs to be talked about this is what a support worker can and can’t do for someone and this is a difficult topic to be objective about for me because I have had very poor care and at the same time fantastic care.  I can’t seem to reconcile the two together as it has kept me off balance for a long time, but a support worker is there to help you to be more independent and not less independent and we see that this can be a massive issue if a person doesn’t know what good support work looks like.  Or is unable to define what their limits are for a support worker working with challenging clients.  This could potentially be quite dangerous due to a person not being able to speak up due to experiences with support workers in the past and this is where the support worker n
