Heavenly fire and the consequences of dealing without consent

This has been an interesting post to think about as it deals with some very heavy topics that are still very much hot-button topics in the disability community. So We see that Heavenly fire is an off-the-books clave program, that people have died for so we see that there is an issue with this at times as we discover it is a program that Aldertree is running very illegally.

Shadowhunters Season 3, Episode 17 | Helen Sabotages The Heavenly Fire Supply | Freeform - YouTube

As we discover he is Just as bad as the valentine in that he wants to rid the world of down worlders and we see that he is trailing it to put it into the water supply in NY and that this would then clans NY and then the world as the Shadow hunters have the time and resources to do so to clans the world of down world.

But we do see that it is “off the books,”  and discovered by Izzy and when she is aided by Simon we see that the clave is experimented on with prisoners and we see that they aren’t told what is happening to them. But we see that they are turned into “Mundane’s.” This is great for some and they are great full for it but others, it is not great as we see that it is part of their identity being a down worlder as is the case for Iris rose, ( who is just in the TV Show and not the books) she can see that they took her magic away from her and that this isn’t great as we have seen that Magnus has a full meltdown when he has his magic taken away from him.

So they are changing their identity without consent and they don’t know what is happening to them or even given the chance to be taken seriously as the Down world often protects them better than others could as a “mundane,” and finding a job or something to do can be quite complex and complicated in that we see that they are unable to re-join society in a way that is meaningful to them at times, but in others, we see that it’s the best gift they can be given.

So this is the complexity of having a “Mass treatment program,” as we see that it does have some benefits but on the other hand, it can have some complexity in that we see that they aren’t able to predict the results around what is happening to them, they have also ripped from their cultures as well in the case of the fey that is taken as they are long-lived and have there own culture ( this deserves it’s own post’s)

So in not being consulted we see that it is complex in a way that we don’t realize that is happening to people and we see that they are unable to compete with the strength of the guards and we see them in what could be considered a mental or day centrer  facility.

Both in the right situations are great but we see that in others it’s not a great situation as would be the case for many high-functioning people with disabilities they need something meaningful to do and we see that this is the case for many people with disabilities they don’t have anything meaningful to do and it gets them depressed and angry.

In the case of Iris rose we see that she is angry, and she states that they have taken away a very part of her soul. So we see that if they were given the choice some would consent to have the serum but thankfully  Luke is forced to inject the last vial and he becomes a  Shadow hunter once more and we see that he is then able to be a part of the reforms that Alec and Magnus can take on as part of their reforms in Idris.

As we see that there is a bit of a variation in the show from the books as in the books we see that phones and tech don’t work due to the Adamus[i] a stone that repels demons, and protects the wards of Idris,[ii] however, we see that Mangus is fielding call’s forward repairs on the phone so we could assume that there are some changes as we also see that Alec in his office in the Guard is on an I pad as well. So we see that they start to move with the times, in giving downworlders a voice in the shadow world and they have the opportunity to become deputies to the Shadow hunters so that instead of being dictated to they can have a real voice and have their concerns heard.

So there is real community consultation around this as well and we see that this is a real and lasting change in the Shadow world, unfortunately, the series ended with this but I haven’t even started to plum the other Shadow world content.

We also see that other issues are addressed so relationships that were once considered disrespectful or had to be hidden are allowed to be out in the open. So Magnus and Alec, Simon and Izzy. However, we see that in another variation in the Show to the books it is Clary that loses her memories, not Simon we see that Simon trained as a deputy with Jace and they have started to accept each other in their lives.

As in the books we see that it is Simon who loses his memories but stays in the shadow world and gives his immortality to Alec so he can ascend to being a shadow hunter.

It is quite an interesting twist in what needs to happen for things to progress and the Shadow world to become one with the current reflections of society. As well as being able to understand the complexity of the shadow world as well.

As we see in Chain of gold they mention that all the stories are true in a way that you might not suspect so in saying that they mention that they might not be true in that they happen but in the way that Dr. Jorden Peterson is deconstructing the bible in a way that he sees the physiological significance of the myth’s and this is what she is saying.  So we see that there is a lot to deconstruct here as well and it is going to be quite interesting to link it back to disability and consent due to current health outcomes due to COVID as the Lockdowns people pause as it was the disability community saying essentially welcome to our world and it showed people what it is like to have your day to day reality controlled by someone else or to be dependant on others for what you need day to day and what happens if they can’t get there.

So it is this that I will go into more depth and I will also do a post around how this affects the Down worlders as a whole as well as it changes the whole world the question is what makes you you is it your personality or your actions?

To me, it is a combination of both and we see that this can be quite complex to answer this question at times due to being able at times to see the whole picture and this is where the complexity of the question comes in when is it ok to decide for someone else what is good for them or is it a case of giving them all the information and then asking them to decide. What to do as they need to learn from their mistakes and have their actions have consequences.? So at what point do you not protect someone with a disability from their actions as all actions have consequences and some have consequences that you can’t predict I have talked about this before as well.
