Maryse Lightwood a progression in grace Part 3

This is a continuation of the series on Maryse as she has one of the biggest character developments in the show. She can grow and accept her past and stop running from it. I was planning only a four-part series yet talking to a friend she has pointed out some other things that will be in another post about how her changes change the way that people respond to her, as she has started to take her walls down and be her true self.

Shadowhunters 3x03 | Maryse, Alec, and Magnus dinner Part 1 - YouTube

I love this clip as it shows that there is a bond starting to form between Maryse Alec and Magnus, as we do see that the one thing out of all of Magnus's experiences is something more Mundane, which is having dinner with the family that would become his in-laws. Something that terrifies most people.  As family dynamics can be an interesting concept to some people and given his experience with the Shadow hunters he has seen how cruel they can be, given his history with the Herondales. However, I do wonder how much of this was influenced by his relationship with Camille which was emotionally abusive?

Yet we do see a progression on both sides Maryse and Magnus that they both learn to accept each other.  Much to Alec's confusion at times, We see that Maryse at this point has accepted that Magnus is a part of her world and that it's not going away in a hurry.  At this point in the series, we also see the Lightwood family decide to not keep secrets from each other.

A concept called open communication and it helps to heal in all sorts of communication, however, Maryse starts to accept her role in causing Trauma to others we see her say about being wiser and accepting her fate by being de ran.   A concept in religious communities called shunning is a tactic that is used to undermine people's belief in themselves and take their support networks away from them. However, there are also a lot of programs that will help people escaping religious communities to rebuild, their lives.

We see that Magnus doesn't engage in something that he isn't a part of and knows that it would be a hot-button topic to Alec, as he was part of this history and it could be deeply upsetting to him to know that his boyfriend's mother was part of a faction that was willing to kill downworlders.  Yet as she said she got out. She knew they were doomed.

Maryse has to confront her own history within the circle and come clean and this would have been a very heavy burden to carry for her on her own.  We did see that Alec learned of his family's history with the circle from Lydia and not his own parents.  However, she is willing to accept the consequences of her actions with grace and this is what keeps her going.  This is a massive change from someone who had a very narcissistic tendency in the first season due to wanting to keep her "house," in order.

Facing up to her own wrongdoing has shown her she was wrong and that it is delayed consequences, but she is also doing things for herself. At this point in time, she has divorced her husband who was cheating on her, so she has to find herself without her husband, and she is facing the prospect of not being a shadow hunter so she was planning to tell her family altogether yet the other's get dragged into a mission.

Maryse can support her son and that is a great thing as she can acknowledge that she is proud of him something that she wasn't able to do in the past yet seeing that she has a weak side and she can be vulnerable is a great thing.  She is asking for emotional support and she can handle the situation well.

We see that they have to stop Alec from sacrificing himself as she sees that this is a learned behavior due to so many years of having to take the heat for his "failing from his own mother.  He has grown into himself with Magnus's help. As people become used to seeing him and Alec working hand in hand and this is a great collaborative approach to working as it can actually stop a lot of problems before they start.

This also shows a massive amount of growth in Maryse as she can acknowledge her prejudice towards Magnus in the past and heal, this wound between herself and Magus that they were able to bond over the dinner.  As we see that the Shadow hunters knew of him and his history yet they didn't know him personally and getting to know someone personally is how we overcome what we think we know about them vs what we think we know.  In being able to see more of Magnus she comes to understand her role in causing Alec pain as well.

Maryse can support her son and that is a great thing as she can acknowledge that she is proud of him something that she wasn't able to do in the past yet seeing that she has a weak side and she can be vulnerable is a great thing.  She is asking for emotional support and she can handle the situation well.
