Harry Shum jr and his work

So I have done some posts about Harry Shum jr and I was talking to someone about him and they only knew him as the guy from glee.  This man is so much more and I feel like that this needs to change as he is such a talented and hard working actor, I am focusing on Shadowhunter's as I haven't had time to see much of his current projects.  However he has done a lot for the Asian American community and even the wider community by doing virtual events and things to keep us amused during what was a painful time for a lot of people. I see that  he is an amazing actor, dancer and quietly mentor to people who are becoming up and coming actors and even people who are starting a second career in the arts.  The role that I think most people would know him for would be either Glee or Shadowhunters. He is an amazing dancer as well and his colleges when he was filming Shadowhunter's were terrified that they would have to dance with him. This being Matthew Daddario, but they where able to

Actors that I admire and the roles they have played. Matthew Daddario

Matthew Daddario - he is not everyone's taste but he has kept what can only be described as class and respect in a difficult time being around COVID and the cancellation of a show that meant so much to so many people.  It shows that people don't need to go to fancy acting colleges to be good at what they do, they do need an understanding of the industry and respect for that industry and I see that he has done this, well. Even his colleagues seem to have a lot of respect for him and keep in touch with him and will do the comic con circuit. However he is happily married and this seems to be rare in the TV industry I give credit to his wife and his family, to be able to keep them out of the Media and protect them.  Matthew Daddario Live on Instagram 25.07.2017 | HD - YouTube   - He is also incredibly smart and will use this to his advantage, as seen in this clip from when he was filming Shadowhunters.   His cast members seem to respect him and he respects his boundaries' and

Magnus and Alec

This is a relationship that has been written about but I would like to explore it in the context of healing from trauma, as both characters have a massive amount of trauma and this relationship isn't trauma bonding it is healing from trauma, both Magnus and Alec have massive amounts of trauma.  Magnus a lot stems from the way that the shadow hunters have treated him over the years and this is why he has a mistrust of the current generation of Shadowhunter he admits to Alec that he closed his heart off for a lot of years.  What isn't explored in the show but is in the books is stated that Alec is the spitting image of Will Herondale a  Shadowhunter that he had a complex relationship with and this is why he does a double take in the show when Alec sees him at his club for the first time.  Shadowhunters Reduced BGMusic 01x04 - Magnus sees Alec for the first time. - YouTube As I have stated before the book Magnus and show Magnus are very different characters, however, both have v

Magnus and Camille - His Relationships with the Down world.

So I looked further into Magnus and Camille and these two clips seem to explain it well. They do show how well Magnus is connected to the down world and the struggles, that they seem to face. It shows the complexity of the life that Magnus has lived, he lived for centuries and essentially can't die. It shows how he is a downworlder and how he sees the struggles and in these clips, it shows Magnus's growth over the years and references the spirit of the books as well.  As the tragedy of the Warlocks and Vampires is that they never die and this is exactly what Magnus is saying here, yet they try to make the best of it but how do you do this when you know that everyone around you will die, and you won't.  This is what I feel that Camille is referring to when she says, " The fear of loneliness has always been your Achilles heel heal you don't do well losing those you love,"  Shadowhunters | Season 2, Episode 4: Magnus Traps Camille | Freeform - YouTube   He also s

Shadowhunter's other relationships and how they relate to the real world  Magnus and Alec, there has been a lot written about them both here and on other sights. And how it is a great portrayal of respect in relationships. Yet people have recently pointed out that at times there are other relationships that are real but not as healthy. Both in the books and in the TV series.  So this leads to what is a healthy relationship? and what that looks like in reality. This is something that not a lot of people are taught about as we see relationships on screen that are filled with drama, but in reality, these aren't healthy. They are quite toxic and they can be quite abusive not just physically but mentally.  A great relationship is based on respect, communication, and boundaries that keep evolving. One major part of a healthy relationship is consent. So what does that look like? This depends on the age of the person but not only the age but the capabilities of the person do they have

So I have been talking to my friends about this and this resonated with me so hard about emotions getting in the way and sacrifice as in my own life I wanted to have the same things that everyone else has but I have had challenges that no one else in my friendship group never has had to face. When I did try to "fit in," to the disability community in my area it made me realize that my upbringing was fundamentally different from others that have disabilities. I was expected to work or volunteer to not "mope around the house all day."  Like wanting approval from parents and teachers but not understanding the internal struggles that people who present with high functioning disabilities, have and the emotional trauma that can bring.  If you substitute the institute for society it sees that yes Alec is different and can't follow his heart, he is doing this out of duty,  not out of love out of what his society expects of him and this can be traumatic.  The thing that

Things that arn't a complement to a person with a disablity

But you don't look disabled  - general translation, I don't see many people with disabilities, so I don't know what to say and I can't see a great conversation starter.  I have an "insert," family member here that has a disability so I feel that  I can talk about this issue.  - Translation I have seen the impact of one disability on my family so feel that I am qualified to talk about it without consulting anyone else in the disabled community.    But you are so high functioning this term needs its own blog post as how it is used and how it is meant in the medical community are two very different things.   I didn't realize you needed support - well everyone needs support at times and sometimes it is paid people, to take the burden off family and friends.  But when your who old and live with your parents - this can lead to some interesting conversations around disability and care as some people with a disability can live independent lives some can't. Harry Shum Jr why we need more people like him in the entainment industry.

'Shadowhunters' Star Harry Shum Jr Reveals Details of the Final Season - YouTube   , Harry has done a lot for breaking down stereotypes and pushing back in writers rooms and he has said that it is challenging to have those conversations and take that risk but it is happening. We are also seeing this happen with who get's roles and how post Covid people are auditioning for the roles, so things like a zoom interview's, that eliminates stress, or recruiting people who do "shipping"  and post them on   YouTube for post production.  I remember seeing a clip where he was talking about Mike in  Glee, and pushing back about  the jokes as if they are on TV it is going to be seen as ok  to make the same jokes in reality.   In Shadowhunter's,  he has talked about how it was such a fun role yet challenging for him as they said they don't own the charcters as they are based on the charcters created by Cassandra Care in the book series. Yet it shows a level of res

Alec presents as very closed off and suffering from what seems to be anxiety, and not comfortable in his own skin he presents as a very closed person and growing up in what is essential if you were to translate it to the real world a military organization it seems that there is an order of things and the reason he is so closed off and not comfortable in his own skin is he is not acknowledging a very core part of himself his sexuality.   This is raised in the episode, called Raising Hell, ( season 1)  the main character needs to give up memory as a payment for a demon, to get the memory back from Clary the main character, that has been hidden along with relics that belong to the "Shadow world," Alec is a part of an organization that essentially there purpose in life is to keep the Mundine's safe from the Shadow World.  So things that people think are the stuff of legends and fairy tales.  They are raised in what is called the institute, and these institutes are headed up

Harry Shum jr and why we need more people like him in the world.

So I have talked about this actor before  and even read some of the Youtube comments about him and his wife, there isn't a single thing that I can find that is bad press about him. If it is commented on it is in a context of natural diversity in casting, helping young or under appreciated talent and the education and intelligence of some of the fandoms he is in due to the projects he is involved in, he also understands the importance of being honest about his roots, and that acting isn't an easy gig and how his parents where concerned about how he would live.  Yet this post is in the content of what mental health professionals call Parasocial bonds when someone forms an unhealth attachment to a character or an actor and is under the illusion  that they know the person when in reality they don't.  This is different to being a fandom or sending fan mail and respecting the actors personal lives as with social media and Comic cons people seem to blur the lines between real li
