Amazing historical disability Allies that don’t get enough attention
Agness Baden Powell
Olive Baden Powell
These two powerhouse ladies created Girl Guides and within
that movement pushed for the inclusion of children with physical disabilities or
who had been in hospitals long term particularly the great Ormond set hospital
to have units in the hospital furthering
their education and training in a way that wouldn’t have been possible, in any
other way. This led to others creating hospital schools and remote schooling such
as correspondence schooling, which has led to what we now know as the “ social”
inclusion model of disability support and care.
Sister Kenney, who created a method of using hot towels and

she also helped create some of the first assistive technology around movement
disorders. Check out the movie and they shall walk if you want more on her life,
Lady client who was concerned with the health of women and

into organizations that provided support to both mother and child such as the
CWA.
Kath Dickson who was

with the rise of “latchkey ion and also

who needed sensory and other seized toys to help there children’s sensory or
support needs pre NDIS, she worked with the person who is credited with bringing
Rev Flynn who created
the inland mission and the mantle of safety for the bush created the royal
flying dress service and school of the air as well as supporting the Cwa ( the
Country women’s Women’sassociation)
Rev Glennie used his horse to chart sick and injured
farmers and children into the settlement of Drayton.
Kristian Adams brought early child occupational therapy to
Australia l as occupational therapy had
been in practice in returned soldiers from the Second World War who had both
physical and mental health conditions and were retrained in massive building buildings and other projects such as Baily Henderson Metal Hospital where to new Toowoomba
public hospital is slated for development.
