What Does Disability mean anyway?

So, I am writing in my new home and see that it has been a game changer. There is also something that people, need to see and understand about support, it does depend on the clients, but it also depends on the team in the housing facility.

I have realized I am not entitled, I am just simply getting the help I need, and I understand that this is coming from a place of privilege, as I haven’t always used the D word. This word being the word “ Disabled” I didn’t think despite me living with a TBI that I was able to use the word as I was able to work,  I was able to drive but I couldn’t live on my own and I am still not prepared to talk on line about this but I see that people need to be able to use the words that describe them without fear, these being Disabled and High functioning as I am Disabled but at the same time I am high functioning.

It's not offensive to tell the truth about what I am it’s not what identify with it what I am, and if this offends you I would question why as what is more offensive is the continued abuse,  exploitation, and neglect of people with a disability, both those who have a NDIS package and those who don’t given that people that desperately need the NDIS sometimes don’t have the funds to access it as you need specialist reports,  and the wait time for the public health system is expected due to the burden on it.

So many people who rely on government income like me, spend money they don’t have to be able to have an NDIS package by getting private specialists to take the time to fill in the reports, I will admit that we see that people use advocacy programs but they are also overburdened and we are talking about NDIS and cost cutting but it doesn’t make sense when we see that people are still getting exploited and not getting the care they need.

I see that people are n” acceptable language ” over  a gaping wound that is the NDIS and we see that people are at risk and they don’t want to accept that to have a massive talk around what disability means and we see that people are able to understand what disability means they start to understand it’s a spectrum.

I know that this is a short and sweet post but we need to be able to talk about this and this is just the start of me digging deeper into what is disability.
