support workers are human to

This is something that we need to talk about, and I see that we need to be aware of it, that support workers are human and need good backup support from their agency. I saw a couple of incidents that we need to be reminded of that there are some great agencies out there and that we need to remember that the support workers do have, lives outside of work, many clients, and having to be able to work with a large group of people can be massive.

We also see that this is something that Large multi-office organizations seem to forget they are focused on the numbers, and we don’t want to see that we want to see person-centered care from a lot of people, and we see that this is something that people need and want and what is person-centered care? It is something that we need to be aware of it is where the person is put at the front of their care and people need to be aware that it’s driven by the person with a disability, not the care organizations and we see that this could be a massive issue due to the issues with rostering, funding and the family dynamics of the client and we need to be aware that these can all lead to issues.

In the past, we worked from what is known as the medical model of disability and the stated that people with a disability who needed care didn’t have a choice about who cared for them or who they were housed with and this unfortunately still is the case today in the minds of some support agencies and we see that this is where things are starting to change and to change for the better but at times for the worse.

But let’s flip this is what happens when you don’t have a good backup/ from the office and people seem to want to be able to help you, but the office is pushing about the money. This is interesting because people need to be aware of the pressures on support workers and that they need downtime as well and this downtime needs to be supported by the office.

I have talked to people and it shows that there is a lot of disrespect from the offices they work for such as they are demanding that people study on their own time, but I have also had support workers after the cleaning and jobs are done then can study when we are in bed or have other activities going on, such as TV but I have found that there are some people who find that they are studying and neglecting their clients.

However, it became very clear to me when a support worker’s car got damaged in a car park and she rang the office and asked to finish the shift early, but she was denied it. I felt that this wasn’t because she needed time to calm down and process what had happened. We see that she needs to collect footage of the incident, exchange details, and get quotes to get her car fixed.

What made me angry on her behalf was that she needed this time by herself, and I was willing to finish the shift early and that she was unsupported by her office it showed that it was all about the money and not about the clients.

This level of care isn’t ok we see that this needs to be sorted out and I have found a lovely agency that I think I will be very happy with that treats their family very well and they are essentially in the start-up stage and they are willing to work with me from what I understand with the YouTube and the blog, they don’t seem to have the constant changing of support workers and the constant revolving doors as well, as people don’t leave bad companies they leave bad bosses and managers and we see that this is what happened with this agency and we see that people need to be aware of it that support workers as much as they are supporting us they need back up from their offices to be on the same page and that we need to be aware of this.
