Magnus Bane and comfrort items part Three

So this is really interesting post as Mangus is immortal and this plays into a lot of what he does in the Shadow world and we see that people are seeing that this plays into the ways the shadow hunters see him du to the fact that they aren’t great, at information sharing and there is a whole mantra in the Shadowhunters that they don’t interfere with downworlders affairs and down worlders are often seen as second class citizens that in previous eras, and we see that Mangus has seen the change in attitudes from downworlders needing to be “eliminated,” to controlled, and then the accords coming in. Giving them there rights to self govern but we see that in the past shadow hunters downworlders for sport and this gave rise to fundamentalist thinking and this is what lead to the Circle and it was lead by Valentine and it shows how extremism can rise in any organization, But in bringing it back to Mangus the box has many happy memories as we see him fighting, in what seems to be the America civil war but we also see him as a teen surrounded by dead bodies and not a lot of memories of how they got their and we see that he can protect his memoires even without his magic, and we see that his magic is what makes him who he is and this is something that we see had interesting consequences for his identity and we see that people are more interested in using him for his powers than, getting to know the real him we see when he is changing his clothes Magnus mentions to alec that he was bord and we see that he doesn’t show that he is scared but hints at it in what we would consider odd ways, often acting out so changing clothes and we see that he says that “tigers have stripes, I have eyeliner,” and this smacks of masking and presenting as normal but in magus case it is that he is a male wearing makeup and that is flamboyant, that draws attention away from his magic, we also see that he becomes very lost without his magic and this is something that we need to be aware of that he does get very low and he at times feels lost without it and he doesn’t have much to do so he is kept busy by Alec but we see that it becomes more overt that he drinks too forget, and this is something that hits alec hard that due to Alec not having previous relationships we see that he isn’t aware that something is wrong until it is to late as the only one checking in on Mangus was Maryse and we see that in the past they have had a rocky relationship in fact she was almost the one to kill magus in the uprising, and we see that this is one of many core reasons that he doesn’t trust the shadow hunters and he with his relationship with camellia it was an abusive relationship and this is mentioned but we see that Mangus sees her as his rock due to the fact that he did try to end his life but she cared enough to notice and saved him but over time grew abusive and when he was able to help in saving will Herondale we see that Mangus decided after that incident to move his life out of Europe due to not only to get away from the shadow hunters but to get away from the mundane incidents that lead up to the second world war we also see that Blackfriars bridge is where Jem and Tessa are allowed to meet each year as they are protected from their addictions Jem was made a silent brother due to yen fen addiction and Tessa is in the spiral labyrinth due to her mistreatment of the shadow hunters the war locks took her in and she is still alive and well, but we see that she is in London and Jem in NY but they are able to meet once a year on the bridge, we also see that Mangus has a habit of being able to make people happy but at the cost of his own as we see that he don’t know how to respond to losing his magic.

and we see that he was at the signing of the accords and the way that the shadow hunters until they needed his help in rescuing Will Herondale from his father as Will gets pulled into hell realms at a moment’s notice and we see that this isn’t something that the shadow hunters can easily help with and we see that this is something that Mangus and Brother Jem can fix as they need to work with Will when he was younger to be able to control this power that he can’t control.

We also see that Mangus keeps a box of trinkets that remind him of past lovers to remember them by as he says to alec in the show that he Is immortal but his memory is far from perfect and we see that this is the issue because Alec gets jealous over it and it brings home the fact that Alec is mortal and Mangus isn’t and we see that this is something that is mentioned throughout the show and the books.

Mangus is a complex character and we see that this is a coping mechanism for him in a way that we don’t expect because it is normal for people to hold onto items that belonged to people who have passed away but given that these were Mangus past lovers we see that due to this being Alec’s first relationship it makes him very unsure of himself in a way.

As we see that the Shadowhunters aren’t great about having healthy ways to express emotions and we see that they are taught from a young age that emotions are nothing but a distraction and this is true but we also see that people need to be taught how to think with both your head and heart and this is where Mangus keeps the memories and we see that he is carful about what needs to happen in what he is doing, and he does keep it a secret from Alec due to the fact that Mangus knows that the Shadow hunters look down on “mixed relationships,” but the relationships have happened in the past, but this was when a lot more “mundane’s,” ( the Shadowhunters word for people who can’t see the shadow world) could ascend and they had servants in the instates and a lot more people choose to live outside the institute and I have the blog post around How the clave striped the lightwood family of their wealth and home, and they where sent to run the New York institute, as a punishment, that the clave deemed appropriate, but we see that this suits the family well.

However we see that Mangus has seen the families from the Clave and the wider Shadowhunter networks treat downworlders poorly and we see that he often pushes Alec to not trust the Clave due to Mangus history with the Clave and this is quite interesting that he sees that change is hard and that we see that the Accords where hard one and this is something that doesn’t come up in the show but that he and his then lover Camille Bellecourt where at the signing of the accords that left the down worlders to govern themselves and we see in those of demon blood that this comes to a head when alec asks him for a DNA sample and we see that this isn’t a great idea, and Mangus has seen how this would play out and pushes Alec to trust his gut and to question orders and this is something that A lot of people are now trying to do and questioning a lawful order when it would put someone in harm is legal in military organizations and essentially that is what the shadow hunters are they are the police of the Shadow world, and they call those of demonic blood down worlders as they are from “falenin” beginnings and this is quite interesting that we see that they are either “turned into down worlders or are born into the world, so we see that they are turned in the case of werewolves and vampires, but in the case of Seelies and warlocks they are born into the world and we see that they rely on the Clave and the shadow hunters to protect them but often this doesn’t happen and we understand that this can become an issue due the fact that often there is a failure in that the are unable to protect them and unwilling to protect them due to the prejudicial thinking that the shadow hunters have had in the past and we see that this plays into Mangus issues around the box and not letting Alec into his personal life and we see that he needs to keep a part of himself separate from his work and we see him say that if every warlock reported there miss dead’s to him his phone would never stop ringing and we see that the High warlock is more of a political position as it is more a dignity position than a paid position and this is interesting in that we see that people do come to magnus for help and takes this position very seriously even to the point of comprising his own happiness and this is something that we see in the way that Alec and Mangus relationship we see play out in a way. As we see that it’s something that needs to be talked about and Magnus has very firm boundaries and values around this as well.

We also see that Mangus is very confident in his identity and sexuality as a bisexual and he makes it known from the first, meeting that he is very confident but we see his vulnerable side come out when he meets Alec as he says that he hadn’t opened his heart up in over a century.

We also see him admit that He is ashamed of his father and that he doesn’t want to be associated with it and we see him start to struggle with parts of his history that we see can’t be changed as much as we would like to see him change it it’s not really possible for that to happen and through Alec we see that Mangus loses some of his more harmful maladaptive behaviours and adapt to reality and face reality the reality that he is in love with a shadow hunter that becomes his husband and that he starts to drink less as he drinks to forget and we also need to remember him growing up he wouldn’t have drunk the water as it wouldn’t have been safe but his mother would have had servants brew beer that was safer to drink and as we do see that he does lose his warlock tolerance for booze and we also see that most of the warlocks are heavy drinkers except those who chose to have mundane jobs and we see that Mangus doesn’t work due to the fact that having a job in a political position if there is an emergency he needs to be able to drop everything at times and then we see that they say it is a conflict of interest in what he is doing.
