Jorden Peterson - On the Bible

So this is such an interesting clip and I have lost track of how many times I have watched it. However, I love what it is saying and it links into the shadowhunter's content I have worked on some well as it says that the stories are true but not in a way that we would expect as in finding physical evidence to suggest what happened is their however it does suggest that we need to be aware that there are cultures where truth was passed down in stories and legends.  It wasn't a truth of their past but an explanation of why things are the way they are.

As well as oral history and this is amazing as we see that when we look deeper into the stories we see that people seem to be aware that there is such a thing as objective truth and this objective is what needs to be challenged and heard as we see that many people have challenged the catholic church but what we need to remember is any organization is only as good as the people within it, and this shows in a way with the Shadow hunters world as we see that they have a tag line that all the legends are true or all the stories are true depending on what content you are working with.

We see that Dr. Peterson is also talking about how it explains a pre-scientific world and how to navigate it and to have a "good life," a life where when the chips are down you want to continue with things in a way and that we see that it is good and bad in everyone and this is where we see that that the bible has so much to offer us and so much ethics wise to teach us.

As I know that this person is controversial however we do see that he can carry on despite heavy criticism of what he is doing but we see that those who seek to discredit him can dismantle their whole worldview in a way, by simply using logic and truth.  So this is what he is saying that the bible stories have the truth, he is saying metaphorically that things are the way they are because of the way that you operate in the world and if you're able to change the way that you operate in the world and l have some goals that life will be better for it.

I see a lot of people love or hate Dr. Peterson but I seem to sit somewhere in the middle because I don't agree with everything he says but I understand that he is doing a lot of good for a lot of people in saying that get your act together and find something to aim at.  He is controversial in the disability community due to his views on disability and chronic illness however he is quite compassionate in this area because he is trained in clinical psychology.   I also see that he is talking to and we need to remember this as well that he is talking to a very broad spectrum of people and some people are going to resonate with everything he is saying some people aren't and that is ok.

For people with a disability having some goals is a great idea however our goals will look very different from what others' goals will look like and this is Ok but as long as you're aiming at something it prevents a lot of the mental health issues that seem to occur in people with a disability because they have lost a lot of things at an earlier age.

I have done some videos on this topic and one of the more controversial things that Dr. Peterson has said is to not let your illness or disability become an excuse. However, I need to say that we need to be very clear on what is an excuse or a reason as what others see as an excuse might be a very valid reason.

So there is no shame in asking for help and accepting it, applying for care programs in your area and looking for help as well, or employing someone who can help you.  I would also say to look into care facilities as well as trying to do everything on your own isn't a great idea at all, and being honest with the people who care about you as they will be able to help if they are a good friend they will be willing and able to help you to navigate this part of your life.

As life is messy and a good life isn't what we see on TV with drinking and parties but one where you have a good connection to your community and your support network. If you don't have a great support network I know that several programs can help you with finding people to help and support you and they are both a combination of online programs.

Also having discipline in your life is a great thing, as well as displine, does help us live an ordered life and we need some level of order in our life as well as some disorder and he does talk about this and this is where the challenges of life come in. We see that when you take this approach to the bible things make a lot more sense and the stories have a lot of meaning in them and looking for meaning in a religion you can find a lot of comfort in them and I know that there is a clip of Dr. Peterson talking to the catholic church saying to ask more of its young people and not less as they are looking for meaning and that if the church got out into the community and found the young people it would mean that the church isn't dying.

I know that he is talking from a US/ Canadian perspective but I think we can take a lot from what he is saying and doing as well and I think that he is going to have a massive impact even after he is gone.
