documents you need to have if you are a person with a disablity.

So this was a very interesting topic to research and create but the basics still remain the same, with the documents you need as a person with a disability, these are just the basics and they are a

  • Last will and testament, this protects any assets you might have and makes sure that they go to the right people, you also need to remember that they are a living document and as life changes they need to change with you, as well.
  • An Enduring power of attorney this document's name might vary from country to country, but we see that if you acquire a disability that makes it hard for you to make important decisions it is a document that gives the person the right to make decisions on your behalf. We must see a person that wouldn't abuse their power as well.
  •  An Advanced health directive, which basically helps you protect your health and gives your decision-makers the power to say when to make important medical decisions for you.  It is important to remember that they are all living documents and that they can be changed as your life changes.

  •  As there are important to have around the NDIS a car plan if you are moving into Supported Independent Accommodation it's important to have a care plan and to see that it's stuck to and this is really important to have these as well,  So a care plan is basically a document that says that this is the way that your goals are going to be carried out and how people are going to support you in this way.

  • It's also important for you to understand how people can support you and what is and isn't support and what is good and bad support, so this is a very complex one to go down but good and bad support looks different for everyone.

  •  You can also have an Adult guardian, this is quite interesting as it can be very much abused as well so we need to be aware of this one as well as paid support workers we can see that they can often abuse their power of not see that difficult behavior as a form of communication that needs to be addressed.

there are also some alternatives to some of the power that the documents do give people and this instead of an Adult guardian, you can have supported decision making,  which is where someone assists you to support to make decisions and gives you the options to make informed decisions to the best of your ability.

We also see that people need to be aware of the mental capacity of a person with a disability and that this can vary from person to person a person with a physical disability may not need any help but a person with quite complex needs will need help and when I say complex needs I mean multiple disabilities that affect the person's judgment and may not make the best decisions for themselves.

We also sometimes see positive behavior support plans as well and they are quite complex and deserve their own post we see that this is something that is in the media a lot more as well as we see things happen to people with disabilities that are provided for differently.

A positive behavior support plan we see that they are to help a person not to need restrictive practices and to have more positive behaviors as well these behaviors are things that might be the result of trauma and we do need more trauma-informed support workers as well, as well are seeing more people with a disability qualify for NDIS and this is a complex thing as it might not be so simple to understand how they need support and this is what needs to change.
