Return to the shadows a review of the podcast.

S1E13 - Morning Star - Return to the Shadows with Katherine McNamara and Dominic Sherwood | Podcast on Spotify

So this is the podcast that I have been talking about and it’s interesting hearing from the actors themselves about what is going on behind the scenes and how things operated. So it’s a podcast that talks about what was happening behind the scenes when filming the TV adaption of Shadowhunters and we see that in the fandom there was a massive backlash about some elements that weren’t brought to life in the TV show however this podcast discusses the rights to the content and how things that worked in a book don’t work in a TV show due to things like

·       Budget they talk about the impact of the budget on the show and how keeping to a show’s budget is important to people.

·        Special effects also play into the budget, as well as things like this, can be expensive to do and if you don’t know how long a show is going to run it makes sense, to not have big budget special effects.

·       Props we see that Dom was able to have better props and that they were trained in how to use them as well.

·       The Actors or their stunt doubles and how insurance played into this as well, we see that they are also able to do their stunts but we see that they talk about a very famous scene on the boat and that it was about to storm so we see that they were very firm on safety as well.

·       The way that the season and the contracts are structured.

We also hear Dom talk about how they were able to be so professional in the world that was created and how the set was a pleasant place to be we also see him talk about things like going on press tours and the fandom. As well as talking about how he believes that the younger shadow hunters are dumb as they don’t go to the people at the top they try to solve it themselves and we see that this doesn’t have great outcomes.

It was also confirmed that Jace has some form of ADHD as well, so we see this be an interesting thing as some of the backgrounds for Jace is how to deal with his emotions as Clary was kept from the world and he was brought up into it and there is a lot of lies and cover-ups in this world “for the children’s protection,”  I have a great post on this but for the people who haven’t read it talks about how the Shadowhunters take there power way to seriously and that punishments don’t always fit the crime and how some lines in the show are ripped straight out of a history book, I see that Dom didn’t want to draw a parallel to valentine and Hitler however I do see some mixed parallels in this world as it is an authoritarian regime however as at the time of writing we see in the books that the clave votes for the inquisitor and the console, however, there are certain families that control the voting power, as well.   ( I am currently reading chain of Iron)

This episode talks about the Dead man’s party, and we see that it is interesting to hear the actor’s perspectives and what they had to do to make things work, and how physically taxing it was for them to do this show.

As well as how contracts work in the acting world. It shows how unstable this lifestyle is and how the person needs to have their income sorted as well.

I know that this is a truly short post but will be doing a longer one in a bit on return to the shadows and I see that they are dropping one episode at a time as we wake up to the effects of on-demand services and how they affect our mindset.
