Lilith in the Shadow world.

So, this is one of the last posts I will be doing on Shadow hunters I will be doing a deep dive into Lilith. So in Jewish mythology, she is Adam’s first wife and she is the mother of all demons,  All because she didn’t want to become subservient to Adam, I love this and I seek to see her and her mindset so she is the first “barren,’ woman, and portrayed as the height of evil.

So this evil had to come from somewhere yet we see that it was in Christian mythology that eve ate the apple from the tree in the garden of Eden. So what did that apple represent and why was it so controversial that she eats it as it gives her power, Lilith already had power and agency she knew that she didn’t need a man to save her it would be nice but she didn’t need a man to save her from herself, she new actions had consequences and that they couldn’t at times be predicted. However when we start to understand what is happening around Litth being portrayed as evil we start to see that it is a suppression of the pagan culture of the “mother god,” and it is replaced in the Christian tradition with Mary the Mother of God and we see that most cultures have a mother figure that is venerated as well as a masculine figure.   However, we see in the Jesus Christian world that it is a very masculine world.

I see that this is a massive risk in a way as we see that people are unable to seek to understand what is happening around them, we see that Lilith was equal to Adam, so we need to ask from a mythological perspective what caused her to fall, and this isn’t an easy question to answer.

So we see that in the show Lilith is portrayed as a human woman who is power hungry and not able to bear children, so we see that this portrays the Judo Christian world view that a woman’s highest purpose is to bear children and to have a family, in the times of the tribes of Israel, yes this would have been true, however now this isn’t always the case, some women yes may want children desperately but not be able to due to medical conditions, disability or other factors in there lives.

I see that we are needing to see what is happening with Lilith more clearly and to understand her anger at being barren, as well, so this is something that we see in some women that they are angry at the world, because the world isn’t how they expected it to be, and we see that this causes them issues in not wanting to have relationships with others or to try to each other’s relationships because of what they want in life and that they can’t have it, not due to circumstances but due to who they are and what they are doing as your day to day decisions become who you are and there will be bad days.

There will be days that you think you can’t cope, and Lilith shows us this she is seen as the mother who can’t let go, and we see that she isn’t able to let go because of her one child ( a child that was sent to her because he is part demonic) a variation from the show because they can’t show  Christopher who is part demonic due to not having the rights to it. ) So they have Jonathan that is evil and that was sent to medium, to be able to be controlled, by Lilith as his power grew we see that all of the Demons are power hungry,  and we see that each greater demon that a warlock knows is a greater demon, starting with Adsmodus – the representation of lust, so Magnus behavior makes so much more sense now.

So Lilith being the queen of Edom we see that she is the ruler of the demons and we see that in the final series that when Magnus loses his magic we see that Asmodus can keep Lilith in her place as she is damaged by Simon when he has the mark of Cain.

We also see that Cain was ( in the show given the mark by the seely queen) but we see that she is childlike and wise at the same time, things are not always as they seem in the shadow world.

But in coming back to Lilith We see that she is willing to sacrifice others due to her not wanting to believe her Child is dead.  I see that this can be an interesting plot twist in having demonic worship. As it calls into question what is demonic and what isn’t so what is demonic in this world is questionable and it shows that we seem to need to be able to have clear lines of what is and isn’t ok behavior however we see that this is a good thing as it shows that not everything or everyone we see as demonic is demonic and that everyone can become the monster,  we need to be able to use the monster at times wisely and use it to our advantage, this advantage being that we can use the things that we see wrong with society and change them, to take the “negative emotions and sit with them and to be able to sit with them as well is a game changer as well, to take anger, frustration, annoyance, and pain and to find a healthy alternative to what we are seeing on screen and to be able to work with that and push yourself forward in a way.

That is healthy and productive for society, to pick your sacrifice, and in saying this it’s not just going through the motions it’s being able to have your heart in the right place to work towards your goals and to make sure that the goals are realistic and achievable. [i]
