Mia and what happens when you have a lack of support part one.
We are now going to do a deep
dive into Mia and what happens when you have a lack of support.
We see that she is strong and
independent but also that she didn’t get there alone and has gone through a lot.
From her teen years until now she wasn’t cared for until Luke found her when she
was found bitten by a werewolf (Jordan) and left to turn.
This is difficult for her to
process as it was her boyfriend (Jordan) who got bitten as well and he didn’t
know how to tell her so simply ghosted her (he stopped communicating with her) and
left her to turn alone. Even though he had stopped speaking to her, he started
following and essentially stalking her until Mia told him to leave her alone.
Jordan only actually left Mia alone once he had attacked her and bitten her
then left her to turn.
We see that she is strong and
independent but also that she didn’t get there alone and has gone through a lot.

Jordan only actually left Mia alone once he had attacked her and bitten her

I took this out of the first
post and will now go into what happens in the real world we see that people
can see that Luke and in a way Magnus seem to look out for her as we see that
it is a metaphor for cohesive control and date rape as well so we see that Luke
rides with her to the hospital and cares for her as well. [i][ii]
As we discover that he is a werewolf
as well and that he is the leader of the NY clan, and we see that he has a flat
but spends a lot of time at the Jade wolf a run-down Chinese in an industrial area
of NY docks we see that it is over water so they can’t be tracked by Shadow
hunters and we see that this is an interesting protection issue around being
tracked by shadow hunters.
So this leads to the question
of why they would need protection from being tracked as we see it as an issue
but it’s not as we see through the ages that the shadow hunters have a history of
being cruel to the down worlders and have hunted them for sport and this does
become a massive issue that they have hunted them for sport, we see that this
issue is a thing about what needs to happen, for things to change as we see
that each down world group supports each other but it is through traditional means,
so in the case of the Vampires it is living at the hotel de mort, in the case
of the Seelie’s we see it is going to the Seelie court, with the warlocks it is
pledging allegiance to the elders of the spiral labyrinth, and finally we see
that the werewolves have the jade wolf but have their own living quarters.
So we need to ask in bringing
it back to disability what happens when you have a lack of support as we see
that this is a massive issue in the disability community with no easy answers
we see that the answers are found in asking the people with disabilities what
they need but it is on a case by case basis that we see as disability isn’t a
one size fits all so how do we see it happen to provide growth for the person throughout
there ages, as we see that some of the programs designed to help people with a disability
aren’t so great they are what we call a medical model of disability much as we
see in the post on heavenly fire we see that Aldertree has the image the Down worlders needing
to be “cleansed,” so this is very similar in that the way we saw disability was
something to be cured.
In some cases, it could be amazing
to have some disabilities cured, but the better approach is the social model of
disability, and this is what is coming in a massive way we see that if things
can’t be cured and some disabilities are caused by medical issues or medical
trauma. [iii]
As many people with disability don’t
know how to communicate with medical professionals and many medical
professionals don’t know how to communicate with people with a disability, as
it is a well-known fact that people with a disability do have poorer health
outcomes due to very complex issues and one of these issues is lack of access
to medical care or not wanting medical care due to the way that they have been treated
in the past.
So we see that in thinking about
disability as something to be “cured,” we see it as a moral failing on the part
of the person with a disability. However, this isn’t true and we see that this
is where the Medical model does come into play as it was thought that either institutionalization
or cure was the best outcome for someone with a disability.
However, we know that for some institutionalization
is a good thing however for some it’s not a good thing as we get into something
called learned helplessness[iv]
and this is quite common. In disability circles or you could swing the other
way and be what they call care resistant,[v]
so this is where you don’t accept the needed care of another person in your life
and you don’t let people into your life.
In disability circles, this is saying
that you don’t want to accept the help of the activities of daily living and we
see that this is an issue most of the time, in the way that the person perceives
their disability. As well as the way that
caregivers talk or approach it.
In the past, most care for the disabled,
as well as the aged, was in institutions run by religious organizations, and their
fore would have nursing sisters running it. However we are seeing that this
didn’t move with the times and therefore we see it as an issue in the way that
we see the world as many haven’t moved on with the social approach to care as
the level of care did at times depend on your family’s ability to pay for your
care, So some people didn’t have a chose to care for a person at home they had
no other options to go into an institution.
As we know some were much better
than others as well. ( I think the history
of institutions for the disabled needs its
post and I am trying to branch out more)
So much like Alec and Mangus we
see they both have a mask on most of the time as well as we see that Mia has a
mask on as well in that she is playing the role of the independent woman, but
we see under this mask a scared little girl that will not let people in.
But we see when she lets people
in we see that she then able to see that she has had a tough life and we see
that she has had no one to rely on from the age of 16 as she ran away. We see that her brother had died, and she couldn’t
live in this shadow forever.
We see that Mia does have maladaptive
behavior in the way, we see that she doesn’t tell the full story to people, and
we also see that Simon when dating Simon is exactly honest with her as well.
We also see that we see that
Mia is very abrupt with Izzy and we see that Izzy sees that Izzy tells Simon
about what happened and that he is interested in her but we see that she can’t
see that Males and Females can just be friends.
So we see that she was unable
to show what was going on under the surface and we see that they needed to be able
to tell what was going on and that people see that it’s not a big issue when
it is a massive issue, around what is happening so we see that this is very common
in the shadow world that people don’t tell the whole truth so we see that they
would tell half-truths or not tell the whole truth due to the circumstances and
that they could be punished by the clave as we see that the clave often time
and time again doesn’t recognize what is happening and they don’t want to see
it as what needs to happen.
Or to accept what is happening
to them, from a shadow world point of view. We see that this is a massive issue.
When it’s not a massive issue they don’t want to see it as a massive issue.
