Jace and his Mind set impacts on Others part two.
This is a follow-up
post on Jace and his mindset as it goes from very stable to very unstable due
to clary bringing Jace back from the dead as he was at peace, we see that even Alec
knows that Jace was dead and seeks to bring the truth out of Clary but she carries
that with her to the point of lying about it and then covering up that lie. As we forget that Clary hasn’t been brought up
in the shadow world and that she doesn’t realize that Alec can feel Jace and
that he knew it and this is the start of Jace’s mindset shift from cocky to vulnerable.
Something that can happen in reality if you have a chronic illness or develop a
disability. That prevents you from having a “normal,” life.
SHADOWHUNTERS
2x20 JACE DIES - ALEC'S REACTION (WITHOUT CLACE PARTS) - YouTube
In this clip, we see that Clary finally tells Alec that she
used the wish to bring him back this made him vulnerable to demonic possession
from Lilith and it makes him so focused that we see that he isn’t himself.
This wish was a fail-safe that if there was a threat so big
to the human world from the demon world that they could contain it they could
rase the angel and ask him to rid the world of it, but now this one fail-safe
has gone. So we see that Alec is
processing several things like that the wish is now gone and that his Parabaiti
was dead and is now under possession from Lilith the mother of all demons.
However, we forget
that clary isn’t trying to be disrespectful but she hasn’t been brought up in
the Shadow world and it is Joslyn her mother that had a disrespect for the
shadow world and we see that in Clary that she was lost and Jace starts to see
that he starts off thinking that he is her responsibility, then she is his girlfriend
so she understands that people aren’t able to understand what she is doing and how
this effects Jace. As it is known and a
very well-used trope that the dead should stay dead.
What stuns me is that we see that Alec tells Clary that he
would have done the same, but it takes me a moment to realize that he wasn’t
talking about Jace he then was talking about Magnus. This is stunning to realize
that Alec has gone from seeing Clary as a “little girl,” to accepting her as
part of the family essentially. Mangus
also has been accepted a lot more now as well and we see that he isn’t
demanding payment. I see that Magnus also has had a stabilizing influence on all
the team as we see that he is now accepted as part of the family.
However, this comes at a cost to him, and I have talked
about that in previous posts. Mangus in a way has become the father figure
of the group and this for him seems to be what grounds him in having a family as
we do see that he has been through a lot and that he can help in a very real
way.
He also now has a
deeper understanding of the relationship Jace, and Alec has due to having to keep
Alec alive when he was lost in trying to reach Jace when the bond was strained
to the point that a part of Alec’s soul left him when they were trying to reach
Jace when Jace was manipulated into believing he was evil. Everyone can do good or bad things and it does
depend on the situation if they are evil as we see that Jace has had a very
difficult upbringing and that Maryse lightwood did her best to train Jace to
see that he wasn’t evil and that he could be part of a loving healthy
family. But this had the effect of him
becoming cocky, but we see that this does become balanced out as Maryse knew
that Jace needed here hear he was loved.
So we see that this
bond can be broken yet we see that it is a very complex world with complex
relationships in a way as well. We see
that in Alec’s reaction to Clary and her accepting the consequences of her
actions we see that she is willing to go straight to the guard. This is massive character development in that
she now sees that her actions have consequences not only for her but for
everyone around her.
Jace
is suicidal! - Shadowhunters 3x11 'Jace! What are you doing...' - YouTube
This is such a hard scene
for me to watch as we see that Jace feels lost without Clary and that he feels
responsible for her death. We do see that she isn’t dead and that the apartment
can move. However, we see that he has
gone from Cocky and knowing that he has great skills to questioning himself and
wondering how this could happen to him. However, we see that Izzy is willing to
step in and save him, from himself as this could have ended very badly not only
for Jace but for Alec as we know that they can feel each other’s pain, some of
the questions are how does Alec not know that Jace is in pain, or is Jace
masking this pain is the question. That
we need to ask, as we sometimes do put on a mask for the people closest to us
but the whole point of the parabaiti bond is to have someone there for you all
the time.
These insults we have all been there wanting
to teach someone a lesson about what they are saying to people and this is a
great example of this and how we need to respect people. This was all improvised
by Dom Sherwood who played Jace.
We
see that the actor wasn’t able to have the awareness to keep himself in the cage
that can contain greater demons so we see that they get chains and the comments
about the chains would go over some
people’s heads.
This
is interesting to see how many people think these types of comments about
people but due to being polite, we don’t mention them. Like I have recently
moved into a disability housing situation and am looking at doing some things
at their community centres but wondering how to get past the thoughts that I
am better than them as I am not I could have the same or lower level of functioning
than them.
This
is a great example of having to think before you act and we see that Dom has
said in the various interview’s that he played Jace as If he had mild ADHD (attention
deficit disorder) there were several steles broken on the set and we see traits
of the ADHD in Jace in a way that they can be seen in a very real
manner. In him having risky relationships, not focusing all the time,
understating that he would always be a soldier, and being defiant most of the
time around people’s expectations of him.
I
wonder if it is ADHD or a trauma background that he has the hyper-awareness of
what is going on all the time and he wants
to please people so we are looking at him pleasing people due to not having a “real,”
family. However, we do see that he considers Alec family in this clip and that this can be
a real issue when it comes to romantic relationships and maintaining them in a
very real and honest way.
He
is talking about codling up to Magnus solder boyfriend but the way it is said
is meant as an insult to Mangus but we see that Magnus is trying to stay focused
as he wants to save Jace from the demonic possession something that isn’t
really discussed due to us coming leaps and bounds in understanding mental
illness as many conditions that were thought to be demonic possession where
actually mental illness or what we now consider disabilities. So things like leprosy were considered to
be possession now we know that it is a severe disorder where the brain
impulses misfire and I have leprosy myself so know how disruptive it can be
to a normal life. I understand the costs
and it’s not just monetary cost it is physical, mental, spiritual, and
emotional.
I also see that Magnus also pays a cost to her in
the insults as well that Jace is throwing
out as well, we see that he isn’t able to reach into Jace's mind due to Lilith having
it so well guarded but this then means that he tries harder to reach Jace. As he is risking Alec as Alec has to try to
get into the mind that is still Jace and that is tough as it means that Alec
could die or become possessed as well.
This
for Magnus means that he could lose a person who he has had the first meaningful
relationship with for a very long time as he is immortal and this has the tough emotional cost of everyone around him will
die eventually we see that this is why Camille being a vampire can get
under his skin in a way as she sees that Magnus doesn’t do well with being
alone.
So
they seem to understand each other in a way and will be able to seek each other
out, but we see that Mangus understand’s that she is reckless and does need to
be sent to the guard.
So
Jace does play into this in his insults in being that he sees that Mangus
understands that Alec won't live as long as Mangus and I will do a post on this
as we see that this does become an issue for Mangus in Alec knowing that he
will die some day. Then Mangus will move on, It is a very interesting topic to
discuss in a way that we see Alec have a fit over this and Jace can play
into this.
However, we see that Jace can understand the consequences of his actions and apologises and we see that Izzy knows to ground Alec so he doesn’t lash out at Jace we see that Magus only has one shot to
send both Alec and Izzy into Jace's mind to rescue the part that is truly Jace.
It’s
an interesting one as we understand that Jace is under what we would consider cohesive
control by Lilith she through mind control can manipulate Jace into
doing her bidding.
This
is quite complex in a way that we see it play out in a way that we see him tell
Alec to kill him to set him free however we see that Alec can’t do it and Izzy can’t
do it either however we see that they can rescue part of him a least
and I will do a post on the consequences for Mangus around being able to rescue
Jace from this control as it is worth having its own post. I know I have written about it before but it
makes sense to me now I know a lot more about this topic to do a more in-depth post
about it.
