Magnus and Luke The downworlders series continued.

Shadowhunters- 1x06- Clary and Simon bring injured Luke to Magnus- Clip- - YouTube    The question is how much Magnus knows about Luke, Joslyn, and the other Shadowhunters, and what they do. As he knows the Shadow World and where did the deep mistrust come from as in the books he has had Shadowhunters living with him and him actively working with the Clave in the past.  Magnus Bane | The Shadowhunters' Wiki | Fandom    In the show, Magnus seems to have a deep mistrust of Shadowhunters and isn't welcome in the institute, yet in the past when he was living in London, he references this in the show that he was deeply unhappy with where he was at. So he moved to New York, and started again, he seems to have a good relationship with Luke in the show, yet we see that Magus seems to know Luke and his history with Valentine and the Circle.  We also see how he became a Downworlder and this seems to be where Magnus's relationship with Luke has become more cordial as they are in the s

Magnus and Alec healing from trauma - More thoughts.

I am going to do a much more in depth look at how these situations can cause trauma and how they relate to real world. In other posts I have done a look at Alec and Magnus but this will be the start of a series on how these situations relate to the real world and how having trauma in your life can complicate things. The first thing about this relationship is that Alec and Mangus both in the books and show have a very complicated relationship due to the fact that Magnus is immortal, and he has seen the way the shadow hunters treated down worlders, before the accords. They treated downworlders like second class people and even hunted them for sport at times.   So we see this struggle of how to keep a relationship alive when there is prejudice on one side and a long history of relationships on the other and how to balance this imbalance of power in the relationship. There also  is the struggle of him trying to keep his business and private life separate for a reason, it seems that he i

ALEC GRUMPY-CAT LIGHTWOOD - YouTube  - the hand movement is actually Matthew is a great portrayal from the books,  this is a great edit from the show and shows how Alec is actually the one who shoulders the responsibility of the Lightwoods, these are the family that run the New York institute.   This clip shows how Matthew Daddario the person who play's Alec nailed the role despite him not having blue eyes. He  notices that the  Shadow hunters are not very bright and their plans mostly fail and that this makes for great TV.  He shows the role by subtle but noticeable movements, that are mentioned in the books, things that stand out to me and others are,  The rolling of the eyes.  The rational mistrust of Clary  That he says what the others are not game to say.   Judging Mundane's, because they have a failure of imagination. There are also habits that Dom Sherwood has mentioned  during a recent podcast, that are both Matthew and Alec however it is mentioned that Matthews perso

Magnus and other downworlders - Simon.

So this post has been an interesting one to write, it seems to me that in the book Simon and TV Simon are very different and there are comic cons and things that explore this as well. This is because the TV show and the books are very different art forms and the way that they were adopted is a story in and of itself, as there was a movie made first but it didn't really do well.  However, the TV show did take some liberties with the plot lines however it has been made clear that it was to do with ratings and as I have said in other posts they have essentially made some of the more "controversial," relationships in the books healthy to the point the actors have won awards for their relationship on screen.  However, due to the show's cancelation, they weren't able to continue with some of the plots that they wanted to, with relationships, and continue with some of the plot lines of the books. In previous posts, I talked about Magnus being connected to Camille and how

So this is a post that I have been wanting to write for a while, it is an interesting one to get into and I went deep down the rabbit hole that is the "Shadowhunter's fam". But there is so much in this show that isn't overt and one thing that hasn't really been explored in the Magnus and Alec relationship is that they both help each other heal from trauma. Psychological trauma - Wikipedia    Magnus is a magical warlock that presents as a male, who has been in an abusive relationship. While Alec has been brought up to suppress his emotions and in the TV series was willing to go into an arranged marriage to save his family name (a bead or lavender marriage). We see from the first season that Alec cares for Magnus and doesn't presume as the other Shadowhunters do that Magnus can use his magic to fix things. He realizes that magic can come at a cost to people and this cost can be on the person itself. This is an overreaching theme in the TV series but not so much

Harry Shum jr and his work

So I have done some posts about Harry Shum jr and I was talking to someone about him and they only knew him as the guy from glee.  This man is so much more and I feel like that this needs to change as he is such a talented and hard working actor, I am focusing on Shadowhunter's as I haven't had time to see much of his current projects.  However he has done a lot for the Asian American community and even the wider community by doing virtual events and things to keep us amused during what was a painful time for a lot of people. I see that  he is an amazing actor, dancer and quietly mentor to people who are becoming up and coming actors and even people who are starting a second career in the arts.  The role that I think most people would know him for would be either Glee or Shadowhunters. He is an amazing dancer as well and his colleges when he was filming Shadowhunter's were terrified that they would have to dance with him. This being Matthew Daddario, but they where able to

Actors that I admire and the roles they have played. Matthew Daddario

Matthew Daddario - he is not everyone's taste but he has kept what can only be described as class and respect in a difficult time being around COVID and the cancellation of a show that meant so much to so many people.  It shows that people don't need to go to fancy acting colleges to be good at what they do, they do need an understanding of the industry and respect for that industry and I see that he has done this, well. Even his colleagues seem to have a lot of respect for him and keep in touch with him and will do the comic con circuit. However he is happily married and this seems to be rare in the TV industry I give credit to his wife and his family, to be able to keep them out of the Media and protect them.  Matthew Daddario Live on Instagram 25.07.2017 | HD - YouTube   - He is also incredibly smart and will use this to his advantage, as seen in this clip from when he was filming Shadowhunters.   His cast members seem to respect him and he respects his boundaries' and

Magnus and Alec

This is a relationship that has been written about but I would like to explore it in the context of healing from trauma, as both characters have a massive amount of trauma and this relationship isn't trauma bonding it is healing from trauma, both Magnus and Alec have massive amounts of trauma.  Magnus a lot stems from the way that the shadow hunters have treated him over the years and this is why he has a mistrust of the current generation of Shadowhunter he admits to Alec that he closed his heart off for a lot of years.  What isn't explored in the show but is in the books is stated that Alec is the spitting image of Will Herondale a  Shadowhunter that he had a complex relationship with and this is why he does a double take in the show when Alec sees him at his club for the first time.  Shadowhunters Reduced BGMusic 01x04 - Magnus sees Alec for the first time. - YouTube As I have stated before the book Magnus and show Magnus are very different characters, however, both have v

Magnus and Camille - His Relationships with the Down world.

So I looked further into Magnus and Camille and these two clips seem to explain it well. They do show how well Magnus is connected to the down world and the struggles, that they seem to face. It shows the complexity of the life that Magnus has lived, he lived for centuries and essentially can't die. It shows how he is a downworlder and how he sees the struggles and in these clips, it shows Magnus's growth over the years and references the spirit of the books as well.  As the tragedy of the Warlocks and Vampires is that they never die and this is exactly what Magnus is saying here, yet they try to make the best of it but how do you do this when you know that everyone around you will die, and you won't.  This is what I feel that Camille is referring to when she says, " The fear of loneliness has always been your Achilles heel heal you don't do well losing those you love,"  Shadowhunters | Season 2, Episode 4: Magnus Traps Camille | Freeform - YouTube   He also s

Shadowhunter's other relationships and how they relate to the real world  Magnus and Alec, there has been a lot written about them both here and on other sights. And how it is a great portrayal of respect in relationships. Yet people have recently pointed out that at times there are other relationships that are real but not as healthy. Both in the books and in the TV series.  So this leads to what is a healthy relationship? and what that looks like in reality. This is something that not a lot of people are taught about as we see relationships on screen that are filled with drama, but in reality, these aren't healthy. They are quite toxic and they can be quite abusive not just physically but mentally.  A great relationship is based on respect, communication, and boundaries that keep evolving. One major part of a healthy relationship is consent. So what does that look like? This depends on the age of the person but not only the age but the capabilities of the person do they have
