The Shadow world and Mental Health. Alec Lightwood.

Warning this contains a discussion about self-harm and attempted suicide.   So this is a continuation of the posts about Alec and his Mother Maryse lightwood, they have quite a rocky relationship and it is difficult to see this and how it affects him as it really does affect him quite badly at times. However with her progression into a really well-adjusted human she can face the consequences of her actions and admit that she has been wrong in the past, it is one of the hardest things for a person to do.  So this will focus on the relationship development in season 3 as it is where they have the strongest relationship in the show and can heal from the wounds they gave each other to become successful adults, whether in the mundane world or in the Shadow world.  In researching the posts focusing on Maryse I now realize that it's really that it's a combination of both the world and the situations that they are put into as we see that Mary was trying to protect her children and r

The standford prison experement a look at reality tv and it's consquences.

Image by  Clker-Free-Vector-Images  from  Pixabay   I am starting to branch out a bit into some more diverse media like this blog evolves and I mature as a writer as I was talking to my parents ( yes I live with my parents but am in the process of moving)  and an ad for the Australian Big brother was on and I was actually looking for some research for another blog post and it hit me that Big Brother and it's related reality TV shows are actually a massive trial of the Stanford prison experiment in reality framed as a harmless TV competition yet we see the same tactics play out and the behaviors' mirror it.   https://7news.com.au/entertainment/big-brother-australia/big-brother-sobbing-tullys-epic-window-meltdown-finally-explained-amid-major-twist-c-7094547   These maladaptive behaviors are the manipulation of a situation to a person's personal advantage, and power plays on people who don't have assertiveness about them.  I know that there was a situation where people lie

Magnus Bane and Down worlder relationship's - Demons.

Magnus and the Down world Relationships.  This is a continuation of Magnus's relationships and how he is very well connected to the Down world. It focuses on Asmodeus who we discover is his father. We also discover that Alec is relieved that it wasn't one of his exes. As we see that is why Magnus is so powerful as his magic comes from a prince of hell, which is mentioned in most of the    Abrahamic religions. Very early on in the show, we realize that it is set in a very Judeo -Christian world yet we see that angels are almost worshiped.  So Asmodeus being mentioned is a very real way of tying this into what we can see as a mirror of the real world.  I am talking about several clips and how Magus relates to his father and the difficulties they have as adults trying to reconnect when one is more concerned about power than balancing it with compassion.  Shadowhunters 3x02 | Magnus tells Alec about his father - YouTube  This clip shows Magnus and Alec working really well together

The Mundanes guide to the shadow world. Werewolf's

Werewolves are humans infected with a demonic disease this being Lycanthropy in their case. Which gives them the ability to transform into powerful wolves,   Changing   either under the influence of the full moon or at will. In their lupine and human forms, werewolves possess inhuman strength, speed, and other enhanced capabilities, with strong claws and canines. Like someone who is under acute stress like a mother having the adrenalin really pumping in her system to save her child by lifting her car or running a long distance. These are all powered by emotions and we do see that there is a difference between good stress and acute stress and bad long-term stress.  Stress can lead to long-term health issues such as autoimmune disorders.  These can be disabling in that many people think that they strive on stress until they are having headaches and other issues. We also in the modern world see that there isn't time for many people to relax and there is very little taught about nutri

Magnus and Alec navigating the shadow world. Part one

Image
Magnus and Alec how to Navigate the Down world  This is a start of a series that is going to seek out what this relationship looks like and what the difficulties in age differences would look like when you look at the different aspects of this relationship they are both reacting to themselves at times. Not what the other person is doing so their reactions can be different between them because of their ages and their experiences in relationships. We see unexpected positive behaviour in their differing love languages as well. Like when Alec gives Magnus a gift and Magnus is at the hunter's moon talking to Mia, he doesn't remember when someone last gave him a present without expecting anything in return. This leads us to see that Alec's love language is a combination of gifts and acts of service. We see Magnus later in the series as time and acts of service. This is where I am reminded of that family dinner I am reminded of, where the others went on a mission at late notice.

Robert Lightwood and Alec, a look into Family dysfunction.

( Warning this post contains talk about self-harm)  This is a promised post that is about the Lightwood family being dysfunctional, as we see that Robert is an absent father as we see that he hasn't provided Alec a lot of guidance in his life and we see that this isn't a great thing. As even when we are an adult we need guidance to be able to trust our parents, and advice. Yet we do see a lack of trust in the whole Lightwood family as a whole is very dysfunctional and this plays into every relationship shown in were and books (However, my focus is mainly on the Show), And how neglectful Parenting can leave people with a lot of physical and emotional damage. This post will focus on the relationship between him and Alec. I have others in the works as well, however, we see that Alec never, in reality, had the unconditional love of his parents as we see in other clips that he repeatedly says you drilled into me that I was never good enough. Yet we see that this came from a place o

Izzy Lighwood and Simon - Shadowhunters relationships

This is the start of a series on Simon and Izzy Lightwood as I will do a deep dive into the issues that they face as they come into their ship in the later seasons of the show. So things like being the child of an alcoholic and having to hide your lifestyle as Simon just wants to be a normal young adult in the books he wants to go to college and get his degree and play his music. In the show it is he and Maurine in the books it is a full band and they eat at a restaurant dock that is on the docks. But this would be another post as who owns the restaurant becomes important in the show and the books. Izzy comes from a completely different world being home-schooled and doted on by her siblings completely whereas where her other siblings had to compete for attention from their parents. Whereas  Simon was given everything he needed and was willing to work for what he wanted in life.   Simon Lewis comes to the Shadoworld as mundane, through wanting to protect Clary when she finds out she is

Words that are used in talking about disablity

What do we really mean when we say a person with complex needs? So this starts with the question of what is the difference between complex needs, disability, and special needs.   I honestly think it is the level of care that they need, so some disabled people with only specialist accommodation can live independently. These are people who may have become disabled later in life through an accident or an illness, or have been born with a disability however had parents invested in their development and understood what they needed to do to promote what independence the person could achieve. Complex needs – can be a diverse term and its context is important as it’s not only used in the context of disability however having disabilities adds another level of complexity.   This explains it better than I could ever do. Complex_Needs_IC_Syd_Dec12.pdf (unsw.edu.au) Special needs are very different from the way disability is used. Disability is used more in physical context and for pe

Alec and Izzy: Brother and Sister Relationships

This is such an interesting post to write and I have been putting it off but I believe that the timing is right to do it. So we will look at the dynamic between Alec and Isabelle Lightwood, as this is an interesting one to do as they both take on very different roles in the show over its run we see that they are brother and sister yet they are in a very dysfunctional family yet we see that Izzy does try to look out for Alec as much as he looks out for her.  We see that she is protective of him but at the same time, he tolerates her attention-seeking behavior in the way that they are productive for intelligence in the Shadow world. We see this in Alec when they are on a hunt we see him notice the little things like faerie dust on her dress when they are at the packer's entrance to the hotel Demort when they are on the hunt for answers for Clary.   In the first season, we see that Alec notices physical things but has to be taught to notice social cues, something that people with Auti
