Mia and what happens when you have a lack of support.

This is going to be a very difficult post to write and for people to possibly read. Please be aware that it could be quite triggering for some people as it will be talking about abusive relationships, stalking, and control of others.

I am focusing on Mia today as she is quite an interesting person in the Shadow world as she is a Downworlder and not only is she a downworlder she is studying and working her way through college online. ( this is TV Mia as she wasn’t in the books)

We see that she is strong and independent but also that she didn’t get there alone and has gone through a lot. From her teen years until now she wasn’t cared for until Luke found her when she was found bitten by a werewolf (Jordan) and left to turn.

This is difficult for her to process as it was her boyfriend (Jordan) who got bitten as well and he didn’t know how to tell her so simply ghosted her (he stopped communicating with her) and left her to turn alone. Even though he had stopped speaking to her, he started following and essentially stalking her until Mia told him to leave her alone. Jordan only actually left Mia alone once he had attacked her and bitten her then left her to turn.

We see footage of her in an ambulance and Luke telling her that she now has someone who cares about her however the attack majorly impacts her life in a way that she doesn’t trust people easily. But she will stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves and she isn’t afraid to stand up for herself.

However, we do see that things get very complicated when Jordan comes in to help Simon as he was staying in a shipping container at the Jade wolf. (home base for the werewolves) We are then revealed that Jordan is the wolf that turned Mia and we see that he didn’t understand what was happening to him. It is made clear that after he was turned, he had no control and attacked Mia, but after the attack, he came to his sense and immediately regrated what he had done. With the guilt, he was holding he joined an organization called Praetor Lupus an order that is dedicated to helping Downworlders in distress as a way to rid himself of this guilt.

However,  he is assigned Simon as Simon is living out of his van and we  see that  Luke calls it in as he feels guilty about what happened about asking Simon to leave he had to know where to go back to so they engineered a situation where Simon “ran into someone,” who needed a roommate and it was the perfect room for him.”

We see that everyone was suspicious of it being a bit too convenient even Jace and when Jace discovers he is Praetor lupus he leaves him alone but leaves Simon very confused as to how this all happened and why are people lying to him for his protection the only person who seems to be completely honest with him is Mia.

We see that worlders are often thought of as needing to be protected but from who is the question as they often are the strongest ones mentally on the show and we see that when Mia discovers who Simons’s roommate is as she encourages him to take the apartment we see that she discovered it is Jorden Kyle as he is going by his second name, not his first name due to the connections, we see that she delivers Simon some blood in blood bags and we see that she is horrified to see that Kyle is misreporting himself to Simon and we see that Simon says that he respects people who are honest with him and tell him the truth something that we see that both the shadow hunters and the leadership of some of the down world clans and packs have issues with and I am not saying that all of them have these issues but some do and we see that they can stop it at times in being honest with the clan or pack and doing something about it as well.

As we also see that in reality, we need to be honest with the people who care about us and be honest about what is going on in our lives and not hide things from people we see that this was a massive issue that wasn’t that she was turned it was that she was left to figure out what was going on at the time, on her own and we see that it was Luke that had to explain what had happened to her, and we see that the turning “ wolfling out,” as they called it is linked to your emotions so they need to keep their emotions under control and they can use a herb to control staying human.

We see that Mia had to rebuild her support from the ground up so we see that Luke is in her life, that Simon is in her life, and through Simon, Clary Magnus, and through  Magnus  Alec in a way but we see that at times she doesn’t respect these figures in her life or acts out in a way that is not healthy as we see that she has been on her own for a long time and we see her not trust the system and we see that Simon gets upset with her for this reason.  That they have a system for a reason and to trust it.

This is quite complicated for people with a disability or vulnerable adults as often they don’t know how to navigate the system and how to seek out support so we see that connections get severed due to the way people behave and before are a form of communication that your needs aren’t getting met healthily and we see that in people acting out in acting out we see that it is a form of maladaptive behavior and attention seeking. We are seeing that there are many healthy alternatives the main one being mindfulness or therapy and there are many different types of therapy, however, this is a form of self-care and being aware of your emotions is a form of impulse control as we see that if you aren’t in control of your impulsive we see that it can get you in a lot of trouble in reality.

However, it is even more dangerous for Mia to get angry due to that emotions cause her to “wolf out,” we see that it is one of the most dangerous things for a werewolf to randomly wolf out as they can control when they turn at times we see Luke do it at times. We see that Mia is still at times learning as she knows that stress can trigger wolfing out, however, we see that she learns to control it and teaches others to control it.  As a human, we see that in the way that she deals with things she doesn’t let others in as she doesn’t know how to trust them and this is quite complex as being able to trust is a massive issue for Mia and many people with disabilities as they often have been let down by the people who were supposed to care for them or even paid to care for them, [i]

As Alec is fair with her but we see at the same time he knows that she bated Heidi a Vampire that is obsessed with Simon into attacking her and she injected herself with holy water ( lethal to vampires but not to where wolf’s)(( I am still working on Mundane’s guide to the shadow would I just got a bit bogged down so it is still coming but waiting on some mythological books from my local library)

So we see that Mia doesn’t trust that the shadow hunters will protect her and we can understand why but how she defends herself and bating someone into attacking you can be a very complex way as we don’t know how it would have ended up.

If this was someone it could end up that you are the person charged even if it was self-defense and this is a very complex issue as you do have a right in Australia to reasonable self-defense but at what level of harm to the other person is the question and are you going to get harmed in the process so Mia didn’t know if hide had other vampires on her side as we see that Heidi went to a bleeder den to escape her miserable life and this is like many people with addiction issues they use it as an escape instead of working on improving there lives.

I was having a conversation about Christmas presents and that the fact that our family's social concerns won’t let us give alcohol as a present as you don’t know the person’s relationship with it is interesting as I see that it is so common in the Weston world to give a bottle of wine to a person or what you know they drink to a person for Christmas. ( Mangus and his drinking I have gone into before).

We also see that Mia is aware of the triggers that cause her to turn but we see that she isn’t aware of the behaviors that cause her to lash out due to her family’s history we see that she ran away from home because she was sick of living under her family’s tragedy we see that before Jorden “turned,” her he knew her back in Ocean City and that she had let him know that she had a brother who died and we don’t know how he died but we know that Jordan had a dream of running away from the cold and running a surf shop some warm however we see that Mia had dreams of going to college and making something of herself.  ( I am focusing on TV Mia as I am aware that Jorden in the Books wanted to tell her but was stopped by Prader lupus members)

Jordan and her met when he was going for a surf in the show he mentions he comes from Brisbane and it is about an hour's train ride ( to go to the beach from Brisbane)  and on the weekends as long as they are packed up you can have surfboards. It’s not uncommon to see on the weekend surfboards, skateboards, and bikes on the train on the peak so during the weekday commute it can be a different situation.
